Late
The Duke set is immensely enjoyable, but I can see how some people wouldn't initially be able to get into it. Here's what I've done to enhance my listening pleasure: • Made a master takes set. • Made an alternate takes set. • Made a non-vocals set. The box, at least to me, was a little overwhelming to begin with, but having the master takes all lined up without alternates has been nice. Also, when I don't want to hear vocalists, I pop in the "instrumental" disc. A less academic feel this way, which lets a listener forget about the dreaded "historical importance" phrase. Guest Bixieland
Cool, thanks for all your input. I've been sampling the "Duke's Men" discs over at Amazon, which I see covers these sessions as well... I can hear more and longer samples than what Mosaic offers. No question this is good stuff.
