Free For All Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 I couldn't find an existing thread, and if one exists, I apologize. I just got this and am really enjoying it. With DeJohnette/Metheny/Hancock/Mehldau/Patitucci. Brecker's playing great, he doesn't sound "impaired" in the least (he plays mostly tenor, very little EWI). DeJohnette's playing his ass off (as are the rest). Nice tunes, a great session. Guys who love to play together for sure. I'm still very sad Brecker's no longer with us, but his last recording is excellent IMHO. I don't know if there was a sense of "this may be the last" at the session (there must have been to some extent), but there seems to be a very soulful vibe throughout. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 I wrote a review for AAJ which has yet to be published. IMHO, its the best Brecker album ever. And Herbie on Rhodes!!!! Quote
DukeCity Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 I picked this up today, but I've only heard the first couple of tunes, on my car stereo while running some errands. But I liked what I heard. Looking forward to some more attentive listening. Quote
Shawn Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 Jesus...I'm sitting here wondering how the hell I missed the news that Michael had passed away! Guess I've been under a rock for too long. What a loss. Will be picking this CD up. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted May 23, 2007 Report Posted May 23, 2007 I love Brad's solo on "Tumbleweed", and how he inserts that "He's a Real Gone Guy" quote there, he's such a serious dude that I imagine him playing that in the studio totally expressionless. Herbie is just a monster on "Loose Threads" one of the best recent solos on record I've heard from him in years. Quote
