Durium Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 JOE GORDON Lookin' Good This now forgotten trumpet player passed away aged 35 and should earn further recognition. Lookin' Good was his only album recorded under his own name. JOE GORDON Keep swinging Durium Quote

Kyo Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 That one was issued as a bonus on Art Blakey's "Blakey" (a Verve Elite Edition). I just got it yesterday, haven't had time to listen to it yet but should be good. Quote
mikelz777 Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 i know a record that looks even better, its called Laura Dern's greatest hits ??? I don't get it. Is this some kind of Joe Gordon dig? Quote
JSngry Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 I have an EmArcy 10" of that one and it's green instead of red. Whazzupwidat, Vol 1 & Vol 2? Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 No, just different pressings, I guess. The 10in had 4 tracks, the 12in release had 6, and some later reissues had 8 tracks from those 1954 sessions. Quote
Durium Posted May 17, 2007 Author Report Posted May 17, 2007 You need to be careful what you say. There's always someone else who knows better! September 8, 1954 You're right. I missed the September 1954 session - Introducing ..... Joe Gordon An LP to search for !! Joe Gordon Keep swinging Durium Quote
bertrand Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 Introducing was a 10 inch, not an album, so technically durium was right Bertrand. Quote
JSngry Posted May 17, 2007 Report Posted May 17, 2007 A 10' LP. "LP" is/was used to denote playing speed, not record size. My mom used to have a 7" "LP" (a promo item from Gerber Baby Foods featuring Rosemary Clooney released by Columbia during the height of the "speed wars") And "album" is used to denote any "collection" of material. There were "albums" of 78s. So technically...I want to know how the damn thing jumped from 4 songs (my version) to 8 over the course of the years, and how many of thos 8 are on the Blakey CD? BTW - I also have a 10" LP album of Blakey (got them both in the same trade back in the day, I gave up the ultra-deluxe WB version of Never Mind The Bollocks..., seemed like a more than fair trade...), so if the Blakey CD is 8+4, I'm even. If it's 8+6 or 8+8, then not. And if it's 8+5 or 8+7, WTF? Quote
mikeweil Posted May 18, 2007 Report Posted May 18, 2007 The Blakey CD has 16 tracks: Tracks 1-8 from EmArcy 10" LP MG 26030 Blakey all recorded May 20, 1954 Tracks 9-12 from EmArcy 10" LP MG 26046 Introducing Joe Gordon Tracks 13-14 were added to the 12" LP reissue of that under the same title - MG 36025 Tracks 15-16 were on 12" LP EmArcy MG 36093 The Jazz School all recorded September 3 & 8, 1954 Quote
