chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 dont fret about this one too much, the best part is the "take the A train" but other than that its pretty typical 70s sun ra freakout music, im not one to critize mr. ra but his later music in the late 70s/early 80s is really a return to form for him and that is what you should focus on Quote
Guest donald petersen Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 its also sequenced weirdly over the two discs. Quote
Hot Ptah Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 (edited) John Gilmore's solo on "A Train" is quite enjoyable. I also like the energetic version of "El Is A Sound of Joy" on this album, although this version is missing part of the original head (which was restored on the later album "Mayan Temples"). Otherwise-- I agree, it consists of a lot of loud avant garde music which will appeal to some, and not to others. I recall a down beat Blindfold Test with Louis Bellson, shortly after this album came out. One of the avant garde cuts from the album was played for him. His comment was along the lines of "this is the kind of music that will drive kids away from jazz." There is more varied, and more melodic, Sun Ra out there. Edited May 15, 2007 by Hot Ptah Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 (edited) 'freakout' is what i like about this one. thanks for the help. i have about 10 minutes of it on a cassette, probably the best parts. Edited May 15, 2007 by alocispepraluger102 Quote
David Ayers Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 This one seems easy to find - what are you looking for exactly? What's wrong with the one you linked to? Quote
alocispepraluger102 Posted May 15, 2007 Author Report Posted May 15, 2007 a better price, maybe? Quote
David Ayers Posted May 16, 2007 Report Posted May 16, 2007 The Italian version on Universe costs maybe $10 less than the Japanese version, and the LP can be easily found for about $15. Quote

If you got that issue for a fiver you did well I'd say the options are there! Ask me a more difficult one... Edited May 17, 2007 by David Ayers Quote
