B. Goren.
To the best of my knowledge this is oop for years. Amazon offers it for £30.97. In addition, if you buy it with The Complete Clef/Verve Count Basie Fifties Studio Recordings, you pay only £62.96 . Sounds too good to be true.... http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0000A9...0326390-0172636
tranemonk
thanks.... I think I just snapped up the only one they had!!!! I'll let you know if/when it gets here....
Van Basten II
Thanks, too bad i'm not a mother because it would make for a great mother's day gift. Two great sets for about 130 Canadian bucks, let us know if you have more deals like that.
mikelz777
I wasn't even in the market for it but at that price (and not a little guilt ), I couldn't resist springing for the Basie set. When will this buying madness end!? I seem to be powerless against it! I'm anxious to see how this plays out. Now when is that Gillespie Mosaic price going to drop? Claude
The Mosaic box is OOP, but the Warner version of the set has remained available in Europe. There is also an edition from the german Spiegel magazine: http://shop.spiegel.de/shop/action/product...;artiId=4398489 More discussion here: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=4716 http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=5537 http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=6953 http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=19045 Edited May 13, 2007 by Claude
tranemonk
thanks Claude.... but now I'm even more confused... So what is the difference between the one I just bought & the original Mosaic set?? (I didn't buy the German version...)
sidewinder
The 'spiegel' edition is in a smaller, rectangular 'book-type' pack (a bit like the Complete Herbie and Dexter Blue Notes) with the same cover photo as the bigger, square box Mosaic. tranemonk
But having read the other threads that is the German one... right? I bought mine from amazon.co.uk. not amazon.de and I've seen the other picture. The picture on the UK website looks just like a Mosaic cover.... Claude
Amazon.co.uk states "Warner" as the label, so it's clearly not the Mosaic set. I've seen a Warner set at Zweitausendeins some years ago, it was a rectangular box with the square Mosaic cover on the upper front, as sidewinder has described.. The Spiegel set seems to be the Warner set with a Spiegel sticker on the front. Edited May 13, 2007 by Claude

ASNL77
Yes I have seen this set in a few shops in the UK and the box is definitely rectangular. (same size as the Herbie Hancock BN sessions). I nearly bought it for £30 a couple of years ago but I gave it a miss. I bought the larger box on Ebay a few months later. I like this set! Van Basten II
As long as the music and the liner notes remains the same, i'm happy.
tranemonk
but one of the earlier threads also noted a difference in the number of songs???
Van Basten II
Are you sure, to be honest, i did not look much for details, i was more in a hurry to find my credit card number, anyway for the Ellington set it's not like i'm gonna find a Mosaic set to replace it. tranemonk
Well it arrived today... Its a long box format and it looks like the the liner notes are in the same format. I haven't opened it yet... but I'm glad I got this LONG gone set.... If it looks like a Mosaic, sounds like a Mosaic..... then it must be.... jeffrey r
My copy arrived today also from Amazon UK. Glad to have this set, and at a decent price to boot. My long box is pretty banged up, but so be it. This is clearly the European box, but the long box says "1999 Mosaic Records".

sidewinder
First port of call in the set is the 'Afro Bossa' session. Superlative. On paper the later material such as the Mary Poppins looks very iffy but it works suprisingly well. And the music swings like crazy. This set is recommended ! Hey, thanks for the heads up on this being available at Amazon. I got through about 2/3 of disk 1 last night, and it was great stuff. Very good sonics as well. mikelz777
I just received The Complete Clef/Verve Count Basie Fifties Studio Recordings in the mail today. I never would have picked this up at Mosaic for their delivered price of $146.00 because that price was way too steep for me. To get the same thing at Amazon.UK for just over $61.00 delivered is a bargain I couldn't pass up! I was tempted to get the Ellington Reprise set as well but it looked like it contained a lot of stuff that I would find of dubious enjoyment. I just had a chance to listen to disc 1 of Basie and I'm very impressed so far. Check the encyclopedia under "swing" and you should find pictures of Basie with these bands! I can't wait to dig into the rest of it!! Edited May 25, 2007 by mikelz777
Van Basten II
Received my Basie set while still waiting for the Ellington set. Someone can explain why in my invoice they converted the Amazon UK price into Euros. When i figured out the price of my stuff i converted the Pound into Canadian dollars, am i going to get screwed in the process ?
Head Man
My 'Ellington - Reprise Recordings' arrived this morning. Haven't had a chance to listen to the music yet but my first impression of the long-box & liner notes is favourable. I wonder if Mosaic will ever go for this format? It would certainly allow them to reduce the cost of shipping, particularly to 'non-US' destinations. Edited May 30, 2007 by Head Man
