ASNL77 Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 (edited) I saw it for £3 today in my local shop and I listened to a few tunes. I really enjoyed the tracks I listened and the version of 'A la mode'. I didn't buy it for £3 but it is a good deal. Edited April 29, 2007 by ASNL77 Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 is Recall a British affiliated Concord label? there was a Jack McDuff compilation on there also. Quote
David Ayers Posted April 29, 2007 Author Report Posted April 29, 2007 is Recall a British affiliated Concord label? there was a Jack McDuff compilation on there also. Recall pulls things in from all sorts of sources. I've just found their jazz list at Crazy Jazz -I'll post it. It includes the Blakey - duh - should have looked there first, but this is an elusive label more associated with other genres and it never ocurred to me they would have a listing! The only Recall I own is Soft Machine, Kings of Canterbury. Poor sound, very short measure, outstanding music. These things can be worth a punt but if the Blakey sound had been as bad as the Soft Machine I doubt it would have been worth it. These *can* turn up cheap and the Crazy Jazz price is pretty much a maximum. Here's the list from Crazy Jazz, for interest. 20947 : MONTY ALEXANDER feat. king ubu Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 I think these Snapper 2CD sets are legit, some kind license deal, not a rip-off. I have that Mel Tormé and it's great, just about as much late/Concord Tormé as I need (I love his early stuff on Bethlehem and Verve)! Quote
Claude Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 wow. Disconforme anyone? I don't think they would mention the producer and engineer in the booklet if it was an illegal rip-off CD (see the Barnes & Nobles page). And why would they copy mainly Concord stuff? Quote
felser Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 I think these Snapper 2CD sets are legit, some kind license deal, not a rip-off. I have that Mel Tormé and it's great, just about as much late/Concord Tormé as I need (I love his early stuff on Bethlehem and Verve)! Snapper is a seemingly legit British label, have a lot of pretty wonderful rock sets out, including the complete Fleetwood Mac live at the Boston Tea Party on 3 CD's - the best example to be heard of the Peter Green/Danny Kirwan guitar magic. Recall is a budget label, great prices, I've always thought their mastering sounded very good, but they never give sufficient documentation of the source of the music, always a frustration. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 30, 2007 Report Posted April 30, 2007 ahh I never knew that this was a legit label, thanks for the info Quote
