jazzbo Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 CBS "Sunday" just did a nice two minute tribute to Duke. . . . One complaint: very interestingly they showed Duke accepting the medal of freedom from Tricky Dicky, and interestingly they showed him outlining the "four freedoms". . . but they didn't mention that those were STRAYHORN's (or were they?). Strays gets "shadowed out" again. Quote
brownie Posted April 29, 2007 Report Posted April 29, 2007 Duke Ellington and his Orchestra perform 'Flamingo' with singer Herb Jeffries for soundies in late 1941. The Lawrence Brown and Johnny Hodges contributions are pure heaven! It's Junior Raglin on bass. Duke Ellington 1941 Quote

I'll look forward to hearing that... haven't had a chance to listen to the whole CD yet, but just taped "The Waking" for an Afterglow show. Nice musical setting of a Theodore Roethke poem. Quote
