Soul Stream Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 I have this 8 track and haven't heard this session until today when I got my player fixed. A rather nice, mellow album with some 70's laid back vibes. Turrentine's a nice fit against that backdrop... Quote
Peter Johnson Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Has this been reissued? EDIT: Apparently so, and available on Amazon (organissimo affiliate link) Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 I've got a CBS Associated copy (whatever that is). I got it for Stanley (and because it was real cheap). Hardly ever play it - Astrud doesn't do a thing for me. There are one or two tracks on which Stanley is great, as you'd expect. MG Quote
bertrand Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 Those of us 8-track purists don't care if it is out on CD. Bertrand. Quote
GA Russell Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 I'm an Astrud fan. I know of ony two or three albums of hers I don't have. This one is one of my favorites. I'm with you, Soul Stream! Quote
Soul Stream Posted April 25, 2007 Author Report Posted April 25, 2007 Glad to hear there are some fans out there. For some reason, I just assumed this one was not one many people knew about. Maybe it's because I've got it on 8 track and that just makes it seem like something people wouldn't listen to . Anyway, it's definately a child of the 70's. But if you're in the mood for that, it's really nice and Stanley adds a little edge. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 I grew up listening to this as a kid, I'm sure if I heard it now my feelings would have changed, but Stanley is great on "Vera Cruz", which Pat Metheny and Brad Mehldau have been playing live. Quote
bertrand Posted April 25, 2007 Report Posted April 25, 2007 'Stanley is great on "Vera Cruz", which Pat Metheny and Brad Mehldau have been playing live'. Is this the Nascimento tune that Wayne Shorter also covered? Bertrand. Quote

Brasil '66 was the first in the US to do it, to my knowledge, with lyrics by Lani Hall (their lead singer) and called it Empty Faces. Mark Murphy covered it on his third Muse album Sings with a great solo by Randy Brecker. Quote

It's the bonus track on "Salt song", which coincidentally I'm listening to now. MG Quote
