John L Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I just bought a reissue of Freddie Hubbard's Super Blue on the Mosaic Contemporary label. Has there been a discussion before of Mosaic Contemporary (a new subdivision of Mosaic records) at Organissimo? There is no mention of it at the Mosaic website. There is a Mosaic Contemporary website address on the disc that doesn't yet exist. I wonder what else they are planning to reissue? Quote
bertrand Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Expect the wrath of Chuck Nessa to come down upon you! You can prevent this unfortunate outcome. There was a thread on the Mosaic Forum a few months a go. Some of use were concerned about this offshoot. I don't have time to search right now. Good luck! Bertrand. Quote

robert h. Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I don't see what the problem is. Mosaic Contemporary is a great idea! There's lots of stuff from the 70's not yet resissued, and unjustly ignored. Obviously, more of the CTI catalog is on tap. Good King Bad is pretty good, so is Beyond The Blue Horizon. Super Blue is a great date, unjustly overlooked. Hubert Laws Afro-Classic may be dated now, but has it's charms. Hope they do some of the CTI Joe Farrell dates - Outback is the equal of many of the perennial warhorses, and there's many others. Ron Carter's Spanish Blue deserves another spin, as do some others. Maybe they will hit on the unreleased gems from the Milestone catalog - some of the mid 70's Rollins, Tyner, and other unreleased stuff. Gotta be better than the limp "Keepnews" series. Hope they hit some Atlantic also - there's a great Yusef Lateef live date (Keystone) not yet reissued. And plenty of others - there were a bunch of Billy Harper dates in the 70's yet to be reissued. Hope they do well and keep them coming! Quote
Kyo Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 I heard from their producer that they have some Joe Farrell stuff coming up, probably a two-fer including Joe Farrell Quartet and Outback on one disc. I applauded him for that idea and suggested they issue the three Farrell albums that were never issued on CD on two discs re-arranged by session. There's also quite a bit of George Benson stuff that'll be reissued. Nothing groundbreaking for the start, but then some of those albums are pretty hard to find. I'll be happy to buy his CTI live album in a few weeks. Quote
Big Al Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 If you've got a turntable and easy access to a Half-Price Books, you'll be able to score most of the CTI stuff on LP for about 1/5 of what you'll pay Mosaic. Quote
Guest donald petersen Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 outback is available right now. i have a CD copy. i bought it at virgin records. dustygroove sells it also. "upon this rock" or "canned funk" would be great! "penny arcade" would be aight. the quartet one has also been out and i don't really like it. Quote
Kyo Posted April 23, 2007 Report Posted April 23, 2007 Outback was reissued just recently in Japan. The old US edition is very hard to find these days, same goes for Joe Farrell Quartet (which I LOVE, btw). If I hadn't bought both of these just a few months ago I'd be all over this combo. Quote
John L Posted April 24, 2007 Author Report Posted April 24, 2007 http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=32320 Thanks. I somehow missed that one. If only I could get search literate on Organissimo, I could spare you guys all this trouble. But the search function here has me a bit confused. I don't know about the controversy, but I like Super Blue. Quote

I've had the 24 bit Japanese Outback remaster for some years now, it is superb. Quote
Bill B Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 "Quartet" and "Outback" are coming out on one Mosaic CD. Quote
