Brad Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 I received an email from Amazon France that this cd, originally recorded on Argo, is now available. Couldn't find out much about it but ordered it, along with two of Les Tresors du Jazz compilations, which I'm looking forward to. Here's the link for Sonny, http://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B000OPP68M...4671_pe_snp_68M Quote
LarryCurleyMoe Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 "The Bastards" have "Move On Over" paired with "@ DJ Lounge" on a 2-fer import. I think they are out - I just ordered yesterday & it comes up "Temp. oostock" Am looking forward to!!! Move on Over Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 I have a vinyl copy from the Bastards . Its decent, typical Sonny. Nothing mindblowing, nothing terrible. Quote
Brad Posted April 20, 2007 Author Report Posted April 20, 2007 (edited) "The Bastards" have "Move On Over" paired with "@ DJ Lounge" on a 2-fer import. I think they are out - I just ordered yesterday & it comes up "Temp. oostock" Am looking forward to!!! Move on Over I have the D.J. Lounge one but as a Japanese import, which I don't believe (I hope) has Move on Over. I like the D.J. Lounge quite a bit even if, as Dan says, it's one of those ordinary run of the mill Sonny sessions that he probably forgot about after he made it. Edited April 20, 2007 by Brad Quote
LarryCurleyMoe Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Well I just have this THANG! for the Argo-Cadet-Chicago sound and decided to go for it! Also curious about the organ player "Buster." Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Gotta cede my place at the computer to my wife. So here's a reminder to myself. MG Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Isn't Move On Over the date with Nicky Hill? Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 20, 2007 Report Posted April 20, 2007 Isn't Move On Over the date with Nicky Hill? Yes, it is. I've been trying to find a complete track list for this CD but can't; neither Amazon.fr nor DG lists all tracks. The DJ Lounge session is about 42 minutes with 6 tracks. The other LP had 8 tracks. I have a bad feeling that some tracks, from one session or another, haven't been included in the CD. MG Quote
Swinging Swede Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 According to the info at jazzmessengers.com all 14 tracks are there. Total time is listed as 79:26. Both albums are also "PREVIOUSLY UNAVAILABLE ON CD!", although several of us have the Japanese CD edition of At The D.J. Lounge. It's released on Jazz Beat, which, if anyone didn't guess that already, is yet another Disconforme label. They are also releasing My Mother's Eyes, an album Stitt recorded for Pacific Jazz about the same time, on the just slightly less new Groove Hut label. The third Stitt CD they have coming out is Tune Up! + Constellation on Gambit, which probably is a straight rip of the OOP 32 Jazz twofer. Quote

A great album that BN or Water should have reissued. At least another Charles Kynard appearance will be available. The third Stitt CD they have coming out is Tune Up! + Constellation on Gambit, which probably is a straight rip of the OOP 32 Jazz twofer. This however is outrageous in its audacity. Quote

Oh well, I have Muse CDs of both of these, so I shan't be even slightly tempted. MG Quote

JSngry Posted April 21, 2007 Report Posted April 21, 2007 I like the D.J. Lounge quite a bit even if, as Dan says, it's one of those ordinary run of the mill Sonny sessions that he probably forgot about after he made it. I strongly recommend that one (but not in this bastardized form, better to get somebody to burn you a copy of the J-Disc than to subsidize this crap) to all Tenor Geeks and other Lovers Of All Things Beautiful just to hear John Board on tenor. SWEET! Quote

Brad Posted April 22, 2007 Author Report Posted April 22, 2007 I have the CD version of DJ Lounge and I love the session. If I remember correctly, we had a lot of discussion about it on this board. Quote
LarryCurleyMoe Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 IMO "...DJ Lounge" is the better of the 2; "Move on Over" is good, though. Quote
