clifford_thornton Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Still have yet to hear that 1st Ira Sullivan on Delmark, too (or is that actually a "Delmar"?). I have and enjoy Nicky's Tune, but Clifford Jordan blowing alongside Sullivan's arsenal looks pretty fine indeed. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Also, as of this morning, my balls seem to be working perfectly. Quote
Kalo Posted October 30, 2007 Report Posted October 30, 2007 Eddie 'Cleanhead' Vinson - Kidney Stew Is fine w/ Hal Singer on Tenor, Jay McShann on Piano and T-Bone Walker on Guitar, You Know! On deck next! I've got that on Delmark vinyl (it was originally on the French Black & Blue Label). The CD cover is a lot nicer than the LP. Highly recommended! Quote

There was a T-Bone on (German) Polydor from about the same time, that I think Delmark issued in the US. Is that right, anyone know? MG Quote

Stefan Wood Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 ANY Ernest Dawkins or Kahil El' Zabar cds from Delmark are a worthwhile purchase. Quote
rpklich Posted November 21, 2007 Report Posted November 21, 2007 I liked the Ira Sullivans. I also liked the Chris Woods "Modus Operandi". Like Bob Koester, Delmark's owner, Chris was from St. Louis. Quote

P.L.M Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 (edited) The best Braxton' Ghost Trance Music (according to my taste) is on Delmark. - Anthony Braxton: Four Compositions (GTM) 2000 (DelmarkDG 544) Featuring Kevin Uehlinger on piano (no, he is not related to hatOLOGY's boss Werner X. Uehlinger), Keith Witty on string bass and Noam Schatz on percussion. If you don't like GTM, this record will make you change your mind. Edited October 17, 2008 by P.L.M Quote

danasgoodstuff Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Delmark is a great label and (having spoken to him once or twice) Bob K. is a heck of a guy too. When I worked at the Electric Fetus in Mpls we played at least an LP side of Jr. Wells' Hoodoo Man Blues EVERY DAY and sold at least one copy every time we did. They once ran an add of all the v. diverse artists who made their first albums for Delmark, amazing really... And Magic Sam totally rules! Quote
Nate Dorward Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 I should mention that there will be a feature article on Delmark in the next Signal to Noise. Quote
Uncle Skid Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Thanks, Peter, for bringing this thread back up! On PLM's recommendation, I ordered Braxton's Four Compositions (GTM) 2000 from the Jazz Record Mart. Also added Hoodoo Man Blues to the cart. Both arrived today. Both = :tup . Quote
