Rosco Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Editing of? There's editing?just small irritating ones - right when you start the disc: there's (even) a small edit right in the middle of the crowd sound of the 41 second cut (unbelievably so) and then it very abruptly goes into Autumn Leaves - actually clipping the first note from Miles. Just irritating blips like that that I think could've used some care. The more that I think of this first cut - Waiting For Miles - business, the more I think that it's a weird, unnecessary slap at Miles' personality, ...or it could be my lack of sleep... I have a boot of this show and Miles' entry in Autumn Leaves is intact. Surely the is idea that official issues of these things should be an upgrade on the boots, no? And some folks wonder why the bootleg business thrives. Still, who gives a crap about the music, just as long as they spell the lawyers' names correctly, right? Quote
king ubu Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Vince Wilburn III. has gone missing on the thank yous... also Vince Wilburn IV. - Too bad no one had Vince overdub that noisy unstructured drumming by that kiddo Tony W. who was no good anyway... Quote

Rosco Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Nevertheless - all good stuff. Oh, it's a helluva show, one of my favourite Miles boots. I'll be buying this version, but is it too much to expect these things to be done right? Quote
ghost of miles Posted August 28, 2007 Report Posted August 28, 2007 Going to have to order the Miles online, it appears--neither record store in town can find a distributor carrying it right now, which seems surprising. Also--no Joe Henderson release imminent? He's included on the sampler that's gone out (LIVE AT THE MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL HIGHLIGHTS V. 1). Quote

And what was the line-up?? Any complete track listing of the date in question?? That's ONE Monterey date I would pick up in a heartbeat!! Edited August 28, 2007 by Rooster_Ties Quote

Ok, so I checked again and there seems to be some of an entrance here to Autumn Leaves - more than I heard before, so maybe I was just tired afterall...still: don't like the inclusion of the Waiting For Miles bit - a bit snarky methinks. Excellent concert tho and worth having... Edited August 28, 2007 by rostasi Quote
Brad Posted September 1, 2007 Report Posted September 1, 2007 I picked up the Dizzy one and the sound is ok, not that great. At least for me, this Cd suffered because I had been listening to the Dizzy at Newport Cd and that is a wonderful Cd, highly recommended. This is one is...just ok, nothing special. Quote
tjluke68 Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 Borders in NJ has the titles on sale for $9.99. I picked up the Louis Armstrong but haven't listened to it yet... Quote
jazzbo Posted September 4, 2007 Report Posted September 4, 2007 I skipped the Diz, picked up the Pops, Miles and Monk. Really like them all. Sure, the Pops isn't HIS best All Stars date but it's fun for me to have and hear. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted August 17, 2009 Report Posted August 17, 2009 (edited) ??? This is the track on LIVE FROM MONTEREY HIGHLIGHTS V. 1: "Isotope" (8:23) Sept. 17, 1966 Joe Henderson--tenor sax Bobby Hutcherson--vibes Don Moore--bass Elvin Jones--drums OK, so what's up with this (supposed, below) release of MORE material from Joe from this 1966 Monterey date, plus some from 1994. This disc is listed in quite a few on-line stores, but none of them have it in stock, and most have it "discontinued" or some similar designation. I'd about kill for more live Joe from '66. >> Amazon<< ...or... >> Tower<< (now Caiman, not really Tower), or even >>Half.com<< There are others too (just search on "B0011Z692G" or "888072303867" - some of which also refer to some Grover Washington release with the same (or nearly the same) title). Of those that have to do with Joe, several also have this as a product description (I pulled this one from half.com)... The late Joe Henderson was a tenor saxophonist whose creative style and strength spanned decades before his death in 2001. Aside from a series of fine discs under his own leadership, Henderson recorded and performed with Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, and Blood Sweat & Tears. Another in a series of archival recordings, MONTEREY JAZZ FESTIVAL LIVE 1966 & 1994 presents two previously unavailable audio snapshots of this great artist. While not exactly avant-garde, the 1966 recordings show the influence the burgeoning free-jazz movement had on him, while not abandoning conventional jazz structures. In 1994 Henderson was in elder statesman mode, his creative fire undimmed but possessing a slightly more mellow approach. This set is invaluable as it shows two vital phases in the history of a jazz Titan. Did this ever really come out?? Is it just delayed?? Or did it get cancelled?? If so, did at least some promo's get out?? I'd buy this in a heartbeat, but if it ain't available, does it 'circulate'?? I've bought the 'various artists' release from the 90's (a legit copy, even) just for that one cut ("Isotope"), and I want more!! Can anybody even come up with a track-listing?? ??? Rooster_Ties Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Doing my best to keep this on the front page, if anybody knows anything about this phantom Joe release (above), thanks!! See ??? two posts above this one. Quote
CJ Shearn Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 well, there is one new MJF release coming next week that I'm looking forward to Monterey Quartet Quote
jazzbo Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Amazon.com says this was discontinued by the manufacturer. I had never seen an indication that it was ever released. That's the extent of my knowledge. Would be a good one to have. Quote
Quincy Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Michael Fitzgerald's site has Joe's discography ya know. Here's the entry: Date: 9/17/1966 Location: Monterey Jazz Festival, Monterey, CA Label: [private recording] Joe Henderson (ldr), Joe Henderson (ts), Bobby Hutcherson (vib), Don Moore (b), Elvin Jones (d) a. Isotope - 8:30 (Joe Henderson) Palo Alto Jazz LP 12": - Jazz At Monterey (1984) Quicksilver Records CD: - Monterey Jazz 1958-1980 Disc 1 (2002) Other artists included on this album not listed here. Just entering Joe Henderson Quicksilver Monterey into Froogle I came up with a hit at Easy Street Records for the comp that has Isotope. Never ordered from them so you're on your own there. It's not expensive so my guess is if they have it someone else does too. An even quicker check on one of the boot sites didn't bring up anything by Joe from '66. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 (edited) FWIW, the 1966 Joe Henderson tracks appear to be at least listed here. And the 1994 Joe Henderson tracks appear to be listed here. And just in case those links go belly-up in the future, here are those (complete?) set-lists... =============== 17 September 1966 Elvin Jones-Joe Henderson Quartet Performer(s): Jones, Elvin (drums); Henderson, Joe (tenor saxophone); Moore, Don (bass); Hutcherson, Bobby (vibraphone) Inner Urge Isotope Shade of Jade =============== 17 September 1994 Joe Henderson Trio Henderson, Joe (tenor saxophone); Mraz, George (bass); Foster, Al (drums) Beatrice Isfahan Recorda-me Y Ya La Quiero I think "Isotope" from 1966 is the only track ever released (or that even circulates?). Is any of the rest of the 1966 date circulating? Edited May 30, 2013 by Rooster_Ties Quote
erwbol Posted May 30, 2013 Report Posted May 30, 2013 Rooster_Ties, thank you for bumping this thread. I was not aware of the sampler with the single Joe Henderson track. I just ordered a copy. Quote
