watching this thread is like seeing a bunch of old guys in a bar tripping over each other to light a young babe's cigarette -

Dude, that's just all kinds of wrong. She's 14. Both of my kids are older than her. If you think that the only feelings that a man can have for a young girl are "hormonal", then you must not have a daughter. "Nurturing" is not an exclusively female trait, and any male who can't/won't realize that has got some pretty serious issues to be dealt with.

Put your brain back in your cranium, where it belongs, and where it can do some good.

Jim - I have a daughter who is 14 - my initial impression was that her post was "professional" - there did seem to be something not quite authentic about it - I have been told that my impression was inaccurate, which certainly may be; but my response was really the OPPOSITE of the way you are interpreting it -

also, my response was not to EVERY post in this thread -

of course, maybe I'm just jealous because I feel taken for granted. Nobody seems to have noticed that I just had my hair done and I bought a new dress -

and does anyone ever ask me how MY day was? Do you think cleaning the house, taking care of the kids, walking the dog, neutering the cat, and shtupping the mailman ISN'T a job?

Fair enough then. I just like being around youthful energy & enthusiasm. I don't have to tell you that by the time we get to be our age that far too often it's all but been extinguished, and that that can have a corrosive effect on the soul. Being able to nurture youth in an non-"controlling" accurate-yet-positive direction with whatever accumulated "wisdom" we might have obtained is a good way to counter the corrosion. At least it is for me.

trust me, I understand - I'm living in a town (Portland, Maine) in which I haven't had a gig in 5 years because of the local performance space's prejudice against anyone over the age of 25 - somewhat ironic, I think, because I have a better sense of old AND new music that the people who book the place. and a whole bunch of the younger musicians in this town, whose work is an interesting amalgam of indie rock and improvised music, admire me and consider my work important - but that's life -

Hey guys take it easy! Ok I'll say this once more. I'm 14 yrs old and I'm a female. Ok and I haven't even noticed what info is/isn't posted in my profile. I don't post my bday cause I don't think it's necessary and don't you think it's a bit too much of info to post? I am cautious at times u know, I'm not gonna completely expose myself. But I guess if you wanted to know that bad you could just ask me right? My intentions of this topic was to see how everyone was doing. And to tell the same about me. Please keep it that way and not get off topic.

JSngry thanks for saying what you did about young ethusiasm and the

other one about you having kids yourself.

We never do that here.

Have fun with the clarinet and oboe. I was talked out of playing oboe and handed a clarinet when I was very young. I dropped clarinet to concentrate on piano before I was 9. Both are beautiful instruments, no matter what the context. Jazz needs more of both.

I'm doing OK, too much day job means not enough time to play guitar. Enjoy youth while you can! :g

oboe was my first instrument; my advice: buy a saxophone - those damn double reeds are a pain to buy or make -

yes, day job heck (I would say hell, but there's a minor around) is indeed a curse -

what? for a year you don't write, you don't call...

well, here goes:

1) my dog died

2) my cat fell into a tennis racket machine

3) my wife left me for a rabbi

4) my mom was killed when she was run over by a tractor

5) Larry Kart got hold of my social security number, took over my identity, ruined my credit rating and maxed out my credit cards; he did, however, make a decent CD under my name

6) my girlfriend ran off with Larry Kart

7) my sister married Chuck Nessa

8) my mistress ran off with my accountant -

I sure hope Larry remembers to file for my taxes...maybe I should give him the name of my accountant -

Hey lady, put on a nice shift and get yourself down to Gloucester ... Herb Pomeroy gigs every Tuesday (i think) at a place called the Franklin Cafe on Main.
