zen archer Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 This guy's an idiot ..... LONDON - Keith Richards has acknowledged consuming a raft of illegal substances in his time, but this may top them all. In comments published Tuesday, the 63-year-old Rolling Stones guitarist said he had snorted his father's ashes mixed with cocaine. "The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father," Richards was quoted as saying by British music magazine NME. "He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared," he said. "... It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive." Richards' father, Bert, died in 2002, at 84. Richards, one of rock's legendary wild men, told the magazine that his survival was the result of luck, and advised young musicians against trying to emulate him. "I did it because that was the way I did it. Now people think it's a way of life," he was quoted as saying. "I've no pretensions about immortality," he added. "I'm the same as everyone ... just kind of lucky. "I was No. 1 on the `who's likely to die' list for 10 years. I mean, I was really disappointed when I fell off the list," Richards said. Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 If I ever hear of Grant Green Jr saying something like that, I'll burn all his recordings. (Though he did relate an extraordinary story in the GG biography.) MG Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Probably the safest thing he's ever snorted. Quote
Alexander Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 Actually, Keith Richards died over twenty-five years ago. But he keeps showing up for rehearsals, so Mick hasn't told him yet. Quote
wigwise Posted April 3, 2007 Report Posted April 3, 2007 If I ever hear of Grant Green Jr saying something like that, I'll burn all his recordings. Just don't snort them, that might actually kill you :-) Quote

7/4 Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 hot off the wire: April 4, 2007 Richards Denies Snorting His Dad's Ashes By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Filed at 2:14 p.m. ET LONDON (AP) -- Off the cuff or up the nose? That was the question Wednesday as Keith Richards said he was joking when he described snorting his father's ashes along with a hit of cocaine. ''It was an off-the-cuff remark, a joke, and it is not true. File under April Fool's joke,'' said Bernard Doherty, a Rolling Stones spokesman, about Richards' quote in NME magazine. But the magazine said on its Web site that the remark was ''no quip, but came about after much thinking'' by the 63-year-old guitarist. ''He didn't offer the information, I had to ask him a couple of questions to get the information out of him,'' said interviewer Mark Beaumont. ''He didn't come straight out with that.'' In the interview, Richards was quoted as saying: ''The strangest thing I've tried to snort? My father. I snorted my father.'' ''He was cremated and I couldn't resist grinding him up with a little bit of blow. My dad wouldn't have cared ... It went down pretty well, and I'm still alive.'' Richards' father, Bert, died in 2002, at 84. In a statement posted on the Rolling Stones Web site, Richards said: ''The complete story is lost in the usual slanting! The truth of the matter is that I planted a sturdy English Oak. I took the lid off the box of ashes and he is now growing oak trees and would love me for it!!! I was trying to say how tight Bert and I were. That tight!!! I wouldn't take cocaine at this point in my life unless I wished to commit suicide.'' ---------------------------------------- the plot thickens.... Quote

Free For All Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 But the magazine said on its Web site that the remark was ''no quip, but came about after much drinking'' by the 63-year-old guitarist. Corrected. Quote

J Larsen Posted April 4, 2007 Report Posted April 4, 2007 Something similar happened on a Six Feet Under episode - an an actress died and her cokehead buddies snorted her ashes after the service. I wonder if the episode somehow provided the inspiration for the rumor/lie/act/whatever it was . Quote

Quincy Posted November 5, 2010 Report Posted November 5, 2010 (edited) Mick replies to Keith's "Life". I don't discount the possibility that it's fake, but it's very good read even if it is. And if it's not, Mick is more self aware than he's given credit for. Edited November 5, 2010 by Quincy Quote

I swear earlier today there was not the subtitle that reads "Imagine if Mick Jagger responded to Keith Richards about his new autobiography." Quote
