I don't know about my "favorite", but the Konitz & Marsh - Atlantic lp has been in heavy rotation for the last week or two. I have also been enjoying the Marsh & Tabackin ~ Tenor Gladness quite a bit as well.

Oh hell yeah.

The Japanese version is all Warne/Pepper, whereas the American issue is a straight reissue of the LP, which was Warne/Art on one side & Pepper "leftovers" from other sessions on the other.

Both are certainly worthy issues, but in my world (and using the EDC method of valuistic formuology) More Warne ≥ More $$$ outlay. Always.

As I understand the thread title, it's duos with two saxes (and rhythm ad lib), not sax and another different instrument ...

Marsh and Konitz came to mind first.

Coltrane and Dolphy I like, Dolphy and Oliver Nelson, Dolphy and Ken McIntyre.

I have a very nice Don Schlitten produced MPS session with James Moody and Al Cohn.

There are lots of fine sax pairings ....

I need the extra material (though OJC issue doesn't leave out anything great) but wish I'd also kept my copy of "The Way It Was," which if IIRC either used a mono master or tamed the wide stereo spread.

I've still got my vinyl of TWIW (surprised they didn't call it "The Way We Were" to try and snag some sucker-buys...), and pretty sure it's all stereo. Is that weird spread just on the bonus material? Maybe they just didn't touch the original session tapes or something like that. Oh well.

Back in the day, an amp w/a mono switch was no big deal. Now it seems to be a "special feature".

If so, there was a Rollins/Tyner duet on "In A Sentimental Mood" on PBS back in 74 or 75 that was killer. Far more beautifinous than the one that came out on the Milestone Jazzstars side.

The weird spread is on all the tracks in the Japanese issue. It sounds like Art is to the left of my left speaker and thus, at times, in a different sonic space than Warne. (A reverse polarity thing? Oh no!) I want a mono switch too.
