BFrank Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I love Hank's playing, but I do think he was best in the 1950s (like the Savoy solo sessions) - had a little more Nat Cole bounce to his playing. But he always sounded great - Most everything I've heard with his "Great Jazz Trio" (regardless of the changing trio) has been inspired and interesting. Quote
ValerieB Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 there is a post on another bulletin board reporting that abbey is home from the hospital. here's hoping this signals a smooth, comfortable recovery!! Quote
king ubu Posted March 24, 2007 Report Posted March 24, 2007 I totally missed this thread before - great to see Hank Jones is better, and great about Abbey as well. Here's more best wishes to them! Quote
catesta Posted March 25, 2007 Report Posted March 25, 2007 I just talked to Hank on the phone this morning about an hour before being released from the hospital and he sounded great - as sharp as ever. That is great news. Quote

Bright Moments Posted December 29, 2007 Report Posted December 29, 2007 anybody know how abbey is doing? Quote
Van Basten II Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 (edited) Did not witness the gig myself but according to spies, Abbey was in very poor shape for her performance last night. Show lasted less than an hour, she kept going on and off the stage, could not remember her lyrics leaving on stage the musicians to themselves. Basically a disaster. Very sad. sidewinder Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Talking about Abbey, there's a very good article in this month's Jazz Review about her life and music written by Ran Blake. Quote
