Rooster_Ties Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 (edited) LINK that works Damn, that's a ton of $cratch for an old LP!!!! Edited August 28, 2003 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 This is McLean's first record. The company quickly went out of business and Jubilee wound up with the master and reissued it. It was later reissued many times on Roulette, Trip, Fresh Sounds, etc. The original is very rare and the 2 copies I have seen were beat up. This item might go for a lot more than the current bid. Quote
BruceH Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 I don't care who did it or how rare it is, this is TOO much money for ANY damn record! (Cover looks cool, though...) Quote
Dan Gould Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Does anyone know what the "book" is for this one in this condition? Is it supposed to go for more than a thousand bucks? Its interesting that its taken so many bids to get to this point, and its still below the reserve. I would think that if there's a similarity between book value and the reserve, someone would have bid it by now. Maybe Atomic Records wants too much for it? Quote
RDK Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 I was just at Atomic yesterday. Had I seen this thread then, I would have asked about the LP. Quote
BruceH Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Maybe Atomic Records wants too much for it? Gee, ya think? Quote
Brad Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 I know I've seen the cd version of this on ebay not that long ago, both a fresh sounds and I think a japanese reissue. I think it went in the $30s or so, a lot cheaper obviously. But I either passed on it or forgot to bid on it. I didn't see it currently listed on the www.freshsoundrecords.com site. Quote
ajf67 Posted August 28, 2003 Author Report Posted August 28, 2003 Rooster, thanks for fixing the link. I'm at work, and came back to fix it then we lost our internet connection for a while and I'm just getting back now. Glad to hear this is availale on Cd, because $1K plus is just a wee bit out of my price range! Jeez! Quote
JohnT Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 I have this on a Fresh Sound CD. It's been awhile since I listened to it but I remember it as a great session. I'll have to pull it out and give it a listen. I'm not sure it's worth THAT much though!!!!!!!! I think it may have been Jackie McLean's first session as a leader but I'm not sure. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 The book value I've got for this one is $1000 mint. Almost as bad as a Tubby Hayes 10"... Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Do any of the reissues have this original cover art? It really grabs me for some reason. Probably all the damned cats in this house... Quote
jazzbo Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Yes on the original cover art on the Fresh Sounds cd. Quote
Claude Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 The auction has ended US $1,925.00 (Reserve not met) Quote
Shrdlu Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Absolute madness! For that final price, you could hire Jackie and Donald Byrd to come to your house and play the pieces live. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Absolute madness! For that final price, you could hire Jackie and Donald Byrd to come to your house and play the pieces live. Yeah, and they wouldn't walk in, say "reserve not met" and walk out again! Quote
Brad Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 That's what you call greed. Glad it didn't sell. There are better ways to spend, both on yourself and for society, almost $2000 stinking bucks. Quote
brownie Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 There was this TOJC CD of this (with the cats cover) in a Paris shop last week. 13 euros. Already had the Fresh Sounds LP reissue. The TOJC is home now. Quote
jmjk Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 I see Jackie recorded Little Melonae on this date. Surprise, surprise... Quote
J Larsen Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 That's what you call greed. Glad it didn't sell. There are better ways to spend, both on yourself and for society, almost $2000 stinking bucks. I don't know, $2000 isn't much to spend on a painting, so why shouldn't someone spend that much on a record if they want? Personally, even if I was rich I'd just buy the damn cd, but I'm not judgemental about it. Quote
Claude Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 A painting is a unique work of art, whereas an LP is an industrial product, made 1000 and more times. An LP pressing could be compared to a poster reproduction of a painting. You wouldn't pay $2000 for a poster ... Quote
J Larsen Posted August 29, 2003 Report Posted August 29, 2003 ...but you would pay $2000 for a litho, which is more similar to a record. A poster would be a cdr at best. Quote
