Can't wait!!!!!

Jack Johnson is one of my alltime favorite Miles albums, and for years I specifically tried to find other Miles tracks that were clearly similar to side one of the Jack Johnson album. "Go Ahead John", "Duran" and "Willie Nelson" come to mind, especially.

Man, I can't wait to hear the unreleased material!!

Thanks for the good news.

£64 seems a lot for a 5CD set, I will wait until it is available from Zweitausendeins.de . For comparision, they offer the Blackhawk 2CD sets at 10 Euro each.

Anybody heard any of the promos of this that are already on the street?? I've seen 'em on eBay, but wanna wait for the real deal.

Still, I'd be curious to hear some early impressions of the unreleased material.

And $51.26 with FREE shipping from DEEP DISCOUNT CD.

Wow, that's pretty cheap. Can't imagine finding it here in a brick 'n' mortar store for anything less than about $65, not even at Best Buy.

Hey Vibes - any idea what Best Buy is gonna sell this thing at?? Just curious.

Edit: answered my own question, BestBuy.com has it listed at $59.99 - which comes down to $12 per disc. Still, DeepDiscounted.com's price is only $10.25 per disc, and that includes shipping too!! Damn, that's pretty cheap.

i am somone who purchased and then sold a promo copy of this album. personally i did not really enjoy it. hearing the same jams over and over got a little tedious for me. especially because i did not find too many of the jams particularly exciting or memorable and certainly not better than what has already been released. i found simply owning "a tribute to jack johnson" was enough for me in this case. and i say this as someone who was very excited to purchase the promo and find the early 70's is my favorite period for jazz (and jazz-fusion) music. i can see other people finding more enjoyment and illumination in this music, but i was surprised how boring i found much of it and it's sort of formless simplistic energy-less repetitive grooves.

Thanks for your very fair reaction. A model of expressing disappointment in a reasoned way.

You've made me think twice about purchasing.

Six takes of Willie Nelson to start off disc 1? I dunno about that. I think I would have prefered this as a 3 or 4 disc set without all the severe repetition.

I heard some of the previously unreleased material recently. This set seems more like a "Making of" documentary. Not as essential as the "Silent Way" or "Bitches Brew" boxes.

Well worth reading the AMG review, and thanks for the link. It probably captures the nature of this particular Miles box pretty well, I'm guessing (having not heard it yet).

I'm still really looking forward to it, but I can understand how not everyone will be as much as others.

I'd have a heart attack if this was ever carried in-store. Best Buy didn't even bring the latest batch of RVG's to the stores...at least, not yet. Just about any US CD can be found on the website though, as you've already found. We don't get our employee discount on the website, unfortunately. :rmad:

Hey, Bob Belden is pretty darned proud of this set that he produced!

I know I'll buy it. I actually think I might like this more than the lp itself, which was not one of my favorites. The material from this that HAS come out besides the lp I really do enjoy, have had for years and learned to dig it. I'm psyched! Now bring on the Cellar Door sets!

I am SO stoked to get this box set, I can hardly stand the wait.

It appears that after this (1) the multiple two-CD sets of the Cellar Door material and (2) a box set of Seven Steps to Heaven and the various live sets pre-dating E.S.P are planned.

Has anyone heard anything else that Columbia is planning to release (besides the bajillionth compilation, like "Limes Vadis for Dyslexics")?

If they wanted to complete the reissue of his pre-retirement studio material, lookng at the Miles Ahead website, it appears there's a few CDs worth of material from around the "On the Corner" period, and a another few CDs to round out the 73 to 75 period.

If they wanted to complete the reissue of his pre-retirement studio material, lookng at the Miles Ahead website, it appears there's a few CDs worth of material from around the "On the Corner" period, and a another few CDs to round out the 73 to 75 period.

In the excellent Paul Tingen book 'Electric Miles - the explorations of Miles Davis 1967-1991' when discussing the On the Corner sessions he briefly mentions Columbia are to release a box set of the On the Corner sessions (page 139).

when you look at miles Columbia output, the (planned) studio box sets seem to cover it all then abruptly stop at Jack Johnson , so it would make sense to carry on with On the Corner / get up with it material.
