neveronfriday Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Either I'm wrong or I am really too dumb. We used to have a complete list of the Jazz in Paris series here somewhere. From vol. 1 - vol. 100 + something. Am I imagining i? Has anyone bookmarked it? Is this an alternative universe? Hello? Quote
brownie Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 I did a search a couple of days ago and could not find the complete list. Don't think this one is complete but it can be of use! Jazz In Paris There was an english version of this a while ago but it's only in French by now! Quote

king ubu Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 Over here it was: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=4062 Do a search for some obscure name involved and you'll quickly find it (I went for "Dieval")! Quote
king ubu Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 I never think of Dieval Well, his disc might not be one of the greatest of the JiP series, but it's not bad, I think. Quote
brownie Posted March 3, 2007 Report Posted March 3, 2007 I never think of Dieval Well, his disc might not be one of the greatest of the JiP series, but it's not bad, I think. One of the JiP I never bothered about. Might check it and find out how Guy Lafitte is on the one! Dieval is one of those pianists that left me cold! However I have one of his album that features Rene Thomas on guitar. It is a pretty rare item nowadays. Has not been reissued! Also the CD of his date which came out under Eric Dolphy's name 'Unrealized Tapes' on WestWind: with Donald Byrd and Nathan Davis! A pretty good gathering! Quote
gmonahan Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 From a post at AAJ. 103 Jean Claude Fohrenbach Fohrenbach French sound The list looks right to me except for this one, which was issued differently (not as "103"). There are three two-cd sets in the series paradoxically marked "Hors-série": 01: Sacha Distel, Jazz Guitarist 02: Bill Coleman, The Complete Philips Recordings 03: Jean-Claude Fohrenbach, Fohrenbach French Sound And for the truly hopeless completists (i.e., me. ): "Sampler" Catalog number 980-691-8. No official "Jazz in Paris" series number, but in the same type of packaging with the same formatting. This also came with a cool cd-sized catalog describing the series up to the Distel issue. Of course, I haven't been to France in a while, so I don't know if more "hors-série" cds have been issued. Perhaps some of our French friends could let us know? Quote
brownie Posted March 4, 2007 Report Posted March 4, 2007 Greg M, you're right about the Fohrenbach! It was a double CD from the Hors Serie list. The CD list is complete so far! Missing from the list - and now very unavailable - is the 10-in LP 'Cool Jazz A Saint-Germain des Prés' with tracks by Armand Migiani and Michel de Villers. This was a limited edition release that came out in December 2005. There was also a DVD title 'Jazz in Paris Remixed' that is still available. Quote

Over on the "New Releases" threads, they're talking about ten new releases coming up in the series: Buck Clayton 'and Friends' Raymond Fol 'Echoes of Harlem' Stan Getz/Michel Legrand 'Communications '72' Guy Lafitte 'Blues ...' Kid Ory at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées Sammy Price 'Good Paree' Sonny Stitt sits in with the Oscar Peterson Trio Maurice Vander 'Piano Jazz' George Wein 'Midnight Concert at the Olympia' Jazz et Cinéma 'Volume 5' Don't know how they'll be numbered, but it's good to know the series will continue! gmonahan Posted March 13, 2007 Report Posted March 13, 2007 I'll be in Amsterdam in early July. Anybody out there know a great jazz cd store there where I'd be likely to be able to pick up these new Jazz in Paris cds at a fairly good price? Quote

king ubu Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 To be honest, these don't look overwhelming to me... several seem to be very short, too. Quote

king ubu Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 several seem to be very short, too. typical I usually don't care about the length of an album, but that George Wein thing is shorter than "A Love Supreme", and it's just George Wein, no illumination! Quote
brownie Posted March 21, 2007 Report Posted March 21, 2007 I usually don't care about the length of an album, but that George Wein thing is shorter than "A Love Supreme", and it's just George Wein, no illumination! But you have Ruby Braff, Vic Dickenson, Pee Wee Russell on that Newport Wein! Love Supreme for me As for those new CDs length, I picked up the Kid Ory at the Théatre des Champs-Elysées. The CD adds seven tracks to the original eight that were on the Verve release. Those additional sides were probably on the Mosaic Kid Ory Verve set (can't trace a discography to that one!). Total length is 70m40s. I see several of these new JinP at my favorite store for under €5, so I'm not complaining! Quote
gmonahan Posted March 22, 2007 Report Posted March 22, 2007 They're not quite so cheap over here in the US, but I went ahead and ordered them from Dusty Groove. Just *love* that series! Quote

I posted the mosaic disco in the respective thread, next time you need it you'll find it there! (Although Kid Ory is one of those totally unsearchable musicians here... you'd have to go the google route.) Quote
