JohnS
Long Green is good - worth having imo. I'd pass on the Dave Pell, not that exciting. But the Frank Morgan yes, another nice set.

Stereojack
ALSO FROUND FEW DAYS AGO: a MINT condition cover (+ ok condition lp) of LONESOME ECHO with art by SALVOADOR DALI! has anyone ever seen or owned this lp? i would like to know if its mono or stereo it doesn't say- IF the catalog # begins w/ a letter "W" is it mono or stereo? W is mono. The stereo equivalent would be WS. Also, early stereo records usually have the word "Stereo" emblazoned in very large letters on the cover. I don't believe "Lonesome Echo" exists in stereo. It's too early. Classic cover!
Teasing the Korean
ALSO FROUND FEW DAYS AGO: a MINT condition cover (+ ok condition lp) of LONESOME ECHO with art by SALVOADOR DALI! has anyone ever seen or owned this lp? i would like to know if its mono or stereo it doesn't say- W is mono. The stereo copies are rechanneled, and most have an ugly "duophonic" sticker slapped across the cover image.

clifford_thornton
Yeah, I do that ALL the time. Or used to, when I saw good and semi-rare jazz LPs in stores.
Big Beat Steve
ps-anyone ever heard jackies "riff jazz" lp w/. charlie ventura? i want this one- dont have it yet I have it and am not overly impressed. As with other Gleason Capitol albums of that period, it is fairly conventional. If I can find it quickly I will post a period review here for your amusement (I think it was a 1 or 2-star rating ) Maybe these recordings were a nice change from TV work for those studio hacks who participated in the Gleason sessions but by 50s big band jazz standards there are better items around. Re- Dave Pell: His LP's on the Kapp label are quite enjoyable. If I remember correctly he did a Rodgers & Hart LP for Kapp too so the one you saw might be similar.
