Kyo Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 I just noticed that while The Sounds of Jimmy Smith with all the extra tracks from those sessions has recently been reissued as an RVG edition, the four remaining albums from that time have yet to come out on CD outside of Japan (or a Mosaic set). The "Date" and "... at the Organ" material should fit on one CD each nicely and I know I'd be picking up both of those ASAP once they're released. Does anyone know when this material will get the RVG treatment? It seems odd for Blue Note to RVG the less obvious material from those sessions first... Quote
CJ Shearn Posted February 28, 2007 Report Posted February 28, 2007 Kyo, I believe both are JRVG's. Quote
Kyo Posted February 28, 2007 Author Report Posted February 28, 2007 Kyo, I believe both are JRVG's. I think so, but if I were to go the JRVG route, I'd end up having to pay for four discs. I'm hoping that the US/Europe editions will compile the remaining material onto just two discs. Quote

I missed that Mosaic in the last minute - that was when I still had no credit card and sent orders by mail, by the time mine arrived, the set was gone... Quote

Kyo Posted March 1, 2007 Author Report Posted March 1, 2007 Nope, see Sermon and House Party. I'd hope, too, but then I don't. But wasn't that the only case when they did something like this? The Sounds of Jimmy Smith is out already and it does contain all the otherwise missing tracks. They could sell the RVGs as "Complete" editions including two full albums each without having to change the track order or leave off individual tracks as was the case with The Sermon/House Party. Yes, I think so, but after that someone even posted something along the lines they wouldn't do any Smith any more... and I'm still pissed. I don't expect an RVG of "Confirmation" filling in the gaps all that soon. Quote

There's a Jimmy Smith session scheduled for June as part of the upcoming Connoisseur Edition batch. Oh, and they can't really call a compilation of the remaining Sermon/House Party tracks Confirmation any more as that track was added to the House Party RVG. Quote

The Magnificent Goldberg Posted March 1, 2007 Report Posted March 1, 2007 Are those "A date with" Japanese CDs still available? MG Quote
Kyo Posted March 2, 2007 Author Report Posted March 2, 2007 (edited) Are those "A date with" Japanese CDs still available? You can order them from www.hmv.co.jp. There seem to be both TOCJ and JRVG editions out there. Edited March 2, 2007 by Kyo Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted March 2, 2007 Report Posted March 2, 2007 the ultimate jimmy smith moment was when he stopped his solo, shut the hammond off- told the jazz club management to fuck themselves, then pulled his pants down- i will never forget it as long as i live Quote

He ran a gay cafe in West Hampstead in the early '60s. When he took his trousers off, you knew it was closing time. MG (Well, for SOME customers it wasn't.)
