Tim McG Posted October 28, 2007 Author Report Posted October 28, 2007 I can't say I'm happy about last night's game, but if the BoSox sweep.....I'm OK with that. They're playing like true champions right now. Quote

They're playing like true champions right now. 22 times in the World Series a team has taken a 3-0 lead. 19 times the Series ended in a sweep. 3 times it went to five games. BTW, the over/under on how soon a Fox announcer will mention that 1 year ago Game 4 starter Jon Lester was undergoing chemo treatment for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma is 5 minutes. Quote
Patrick Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 I'll take the under, and be happy for Lester's return. Quote

Quincy Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 this has to be the worst world series ever. how did the rockies even make it into the playoffs?? This one is purely the result of the wild card, letting mediocre teams on a hot streak into the playoffs, only to get a dull, lopsided world series. The last 7 game series was in 2002 (Angels-Giants) and the last 6 game series occurred the following year (Marlins-Yanks). Since then, they've all been rather one sided and dull, this one arguably the most uncompetitive thus far. A 7 game series is no guarantee of a good series, not if all the games are blowouts. I suggest you revisit the White Sox-Astros series. One of the more exciting sweeps in baseball history. Baseball ref link Quote
Quincy Posted October 28, 2007 Report Posted October 28, 2007 (edited) And I don't understand the complaint about hot teams/wild cards. Sometimes those teams parlay it all the way to a championship, like the Marlins in 2003. Or the Cardinals last year. Somebody's changed his tune. Edited October 28, 2007 by Quincy Quote

But I don't think I ever said that it was wrong, per se - only that some poor teams back into the playoffs and then get hot and win it all. This year's Rockies are a better team than last year's Cards, imo, and not only because they won 8 more games in the regular season. Quote

Yeah, they were about as far from the scorching hot Rockies as a team could be. They were doing everything they could to hand a weak NL Central to the Astros. Quote

Cubbies looked pretty darn good this year. A lot of NL teams could have gone to the WS this year and good ones, too. Cubs, Mets, Pads, D'backs, Phillies, Brew-ha's even the [hated] Dodgers could have made it....if my Giants didn't knock them out of the NL West lead in early September. Ray Durham's walk-off HR was the highlight of that series....maybe even the year :g :g Quote

The World Champion Cards only won 83 games that year, and just barely held on to win the division. Quote

Whew, under under under! Howie Long mentions it during the football postgame show at approximately 4:45 Pacific. Quote
Neal Pomea Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 In 2005 Houston was a wild card team, and they lost to the White Sox in only 4, but that was one of the most competitive World Series in recent memory. The run differential was only 6. One of the games lasted 14 innings. Every game could have gone either way. It was close to a Houston sweep, really. Unfortunately, not so good this year. I started losing interest when they were wasting warm weather days in early October for the sake of TV ratings, delaying the action until the weekend. Unless there is a team for me to root for, that kind of manipulation is leaving a very bad taste in my mouth. And you all know what it takes for me to admit bad taste!! Quote

J.A.W. Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Congratulations, Dan. What a great team Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Congratulations, Dan. What a great team thank you very much, Hans. Very gratifying and yet definitely different in "feel" than the 2004 championship. Its nice that the team seems so well situated to do this again, and maybe again and and again, soon. Pedroia, Ellsbury, Beckett, Papelbon, Lester, Youk - all either locked up for several years or not even close to sniffing free agency. Big decisions upcoming on Schilling and Lowell and maybe Wakefield but this team is in great shape, and there are some strong prospects getting close too - especially the no-hit kid, Buchholz. But I can't imagine ever reading a better headline in my life than Red Sox Win World Series A-Rod Opts Out :g Quote
Chalupa Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Congrats to the Red Sox and their fans. Quote
Noj Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 Congratulations Dan and all Red Sox fans! Quote
skeith Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I'll say Red Sox in 6 but they're also facing a team that doesn't know it should lose. It will be disappointing if the Red Sox lose. I'd rather see a local team (not the Yankees or Phillies of course) than some team out West win Nah. Rocks in six. They're just on fire right now. They are young and got nothing to loose. It will be a fun WS to watch: Sox pitching vs Rocks hitting. Uh hem.... paging Goodspeak? Congrats to Dan, Boston and their fans, Rockies and fans have my condolences. Quote
skeith Posted October 29, 2007 Report Posted October 29, 2007 I guess this makes the Tribe the second best team in baseball. Quote
