JSngry Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 http://www.dustygroove.com/browse.php?kwfi...1&incl_cs=1 Not everything on this page is $12.99 (or a CD), but all you gotta do is pay attention. Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted February 21, 2007 Report Posted February 21, 2007 i just did that search a few minutes ago! ha. was curious about the Shirley Scott and Latin Jazz Quintet "Mucho, Mucho"?? had never seen it before. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Can order them from Amazon via Organissimo link as well. Quote
chris olivarez Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 The credit cards are rioting trying to break out of the wallet . Looks like I'll have to call for help. Gee thanks JSngry. Quote
riverrat Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 Yes, thanks for the tip! I just checked Amazon for one I saw on the Dusty Groove page- Bobby Timmons "Little Barefoot Soul". Amazon lists it as "available for pre-order". Will be released Feb 27. So this must be a new reissue series? Does anyone know if they are 20 or 24-bit or any other details about the remastering? Quote
Tony Pusey Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 There is a thread on this somewhere, some are older 16 bit some are k2- Hiroshi has them and they cost a measly 1000 yen! Quote

I don't know , but what's wrong with the sound on The Prestige Trio Sessions ( containing Little Barefoot Soul and Chun-King ) put out by Fantasy a few years ago ? Quote
robviti Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 are you saying there is something wrong with the sound? if so, what do you hear? Quote
jazzbo Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 I myself didn't hear anything wrong with the sound, quite the contrary. I think it's likely Chas was just pointing out its availability domestically. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 (edited) I might point out that a few of these could possibly include a track (or perhaps even two?) that was/were cut from the only domestic (U.S.) CD issue of these same albums - since they are often only offered here in the U.S. in "two LP's on one CD" configurations. One example I'm aware of is Patrice Rushen's "Prelusion" -- which is only complete in its Japanese issue. (Now the specific track they included in the Japanese issue, but bumped off the U.S. issue (to make room for her second album) is TOTALLY worthless filler (IMHO), so no biggie there.) But for people looking for "complete" issues, there could be a few lurking in this list from Dusty that represent the ONLY complete digital issue of those albums anywhere on the planet. Any others title jump out at people as being more complete than their only other digital release here in the States?? Edited February 22, 2007 by Rooster_Ties Quote
Man with the Golden Arm Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 so how is the Shirley Scott w/ the Latin Jazz Quintet? thanks. Quote
JSngry Posted February 22, 2007 Author Report Posted February 22, 2007 Hey, I had no idea that Amazon was offering these (and at 50 cents less to boot!). Go there when possible and give the O-Board the buckages. My bad, mea culpa, and skoo skoochee. Quote

I don't know , but what's wrong with the sound on The Prestige Trio Sessions ( containing Little Barefoot Soul and Chun-King ) put out by Fantasy a few years ago ? I was just trying to find out more about the remastering of these Japanese releases. To my ears, 20 or 24-bit remastering often makes a significant improvement in sound. This generally holds true even if the original 16-bit remaster already sounded good. The Japanese are far ahead of the US in upgraded remasters so I'll often pick these up if they are a decent price, as these are. If the domestic and import versions have the same remastering, I don't worry much about finding Japan versions. The exception to this is if the price is the same, in which case I buy the Japan version because I've heard their quality control is better. I don't have any of the Trio Sessions, and I did see that these three sessions had been released domestically as a package. So if I find out that the imports aren't upgraded remasters, it makes more sense to buy the package- probably significantly less expensive than picking them up individually. Quote
Guest donald petersen Posted February 22, 2007 Report Posted February 22, 2007 the kynard too-i asked in another thread, but is it slow blues-ey organ with a few more uptempo tunes (and some pop covers) or is it something a little more interesting? Quote

One pop cover - "By time get to Phoenix", OK ballad. 3 originals, up tempo, all OK. Two jazz standards - Brownie's "Delilah" smashing, and "Christo Redentor" THE definitive version in my view. Trust a church organist to play this with the absolutely RIGHT feeling. MG Quote

Well, yeah, and they also get all these weirdass things that nobody else commonly has, like those Spanish BN things that were only supposed to be for European Coffee Magazine Book Subscribers or whatever the hell that was. I see Japanese CDs for $12.99, w/a fair # that aren't available singularly in the domestic market, and I'm thinking it's the same type deal, probably some special series for registered Shibuya-kei enthusiasts or some such that "we" weren't supposed to be able to get. Had no idea that it was a "general release" type thing, not at those prices. But hey - no matter where you get it, the opportunity to get in surely good sound for under $13.00, hey... Life is good! Soulstation1 Posted February 23, 2007 Report Posted February 23, 2007 (edited) i was gonna ask 'bout braith's laughing soul Edited February 23, 2007 by Soulstation1 Quote
street singer Posted February 25, 2007 Report Posted February 25, 2007 I received two of these CDs today: George Braith - 'Laughing Soul' and Latin Jazz Quintet: 'Latin Soul'. Based on initial listening, I can totally recommend them to anyone interested in this music. The 'Latin Soul' album I have been trying to track down for some time now; the 'Laughing Soul' album I had never heard of. Both are great sessions. The sound quality on both of these is excellent as well. 'Laughing Soul' is a 20bit K2, mastered by Hiroshi Kawasaki. I am unable to locate any mastering information for 'Latin Soul' - it does, however, have a copyright date of 1993. So, probably not 20 bit, yet - still sounds great. I'll be picking up a few more of these, I think... Quote

It's coupled with "Hot sauce", which originaly issued on TruSound 15003. It's still available. Remastered by Kirk Felton in 1993. MG Quote

Actually, since they are priced at 1000 yen, you can buy them direct from Hiroshi or other Japanese retailers for under $10 and get shipping often cheaper than US domestic to boot. Quote
