Dan Gould Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 (edited) I'll bet many of you got this e-mail today: *************** Blue Note Records New Release Update ******************************** Rudy Van Gelder reissues ********************* All titles in the RVG Edition are remastered in 24 bit by legendary engineer Rudy Van Gelder. New RVGs include Art Blakey- Indestructible; Dexter Gordon- Our Man In Paris; Grant Green- Grantstand; Horace Silver- Horace Silver Trio; Sonny Rollins- Volume 1 and John Coltrane- Blue Trane. Upcoming RVGs include Joe Henderson- Mode or Joe; Jackie McLean- Let Freedom Ring; Lee Morgan- Search For The New Land; Bud Powell- The Scene Changes and Wayne Shorter- Adam’s Apple. Click The Link for audio samples or to view or purchase all titles in the RVG Edition http://www.BlueNote.com/RVG ******************* One of my pet peeves is people calling Blue Trane but what can you do when the label itself makes the same mistake? Really sad. Edited August 26, 2003 by Dan Gould Quote
sidewinder Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 That 'Mode or Joe' session sounds pretty intriguing too ! Quote
jazzbo Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Ah, the typoes continue. . .the tradition continues! Quote

Christiern Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 (edited) The funny thing is that the album was indeed titled Blue Train originally! Edited September 8, 2003 by Christiern Quote
JazzRules Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 If "Blue Trane" is "pathetic", what do you call a George W Bush speech? Certainly in this world of wayward politicians, economic depression, "Arrrrnooold", SARs, terrorists.........we can reserve the word "pathetic" for more appropriate applications? Quote
Guest Chaney Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 JazzRules: Have you seen THIS? Quote
JazzRules Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 JazzRules: Have you seen THIS? I assume you meant this particular thread? "Ranking member of House Appropriation Committee, calls for Rumsfeld/Wolfowitz resignation" THanks, first time I had seen that. I think the White House should "obey" Wolfowitz has to be the most dangerous man in America. Quote
Guest Chaney Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 JazzRules: Have you seen THIS? I assume you meant this particular thread?... Nope. The link provided was as intended. B) Quote
Ed S Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 The funny thing is that the album was indeed titled Blue Train[/] originally! I have to confess to never paying attention to the spelling before. I always assumed it was Blue TRANE since after all, it is Trane. Quote
Jazzmoose Posted September 8, 2003 Report Posted September 8, 2003 JazzRules, he means if you want to talk politics, take it to the political forum. We don't piss in the swimming pool here; there's a seperate room for that. Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 The real "kicker" is Fantasy's release of a cd called "Blue Trane". I'm sure this anthology has suckered more than a few customers. Quote
Ed S Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 What Mark said. Keep politics in the political forum and threads therein. There's plenty of opportunity to show us your stuff there. B) Quote
Christiern Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 Wasn't there a Prestige album called Blue Trane? Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 9, 2003 Author Report Posted September 9, 2003 I think that's what Chuck is referring to, Chris, a Fantasy comp. of Trane's blues tunes put out as "Blue Trane". The funny thing is, in a way, there's no false advertising here. They're "stealing" sales only to the extent that the wrong title for the BN album has made its way into the collective jazz consciousness, something that has now been helped along by Blue Note itself. Way to go guys! Quote
pryan Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I wonder what Booby Hutcherson thinks of all these spelling gaffes? Quote
Parkertown Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I've always heard about the "Booby" thing, but have never seen it. What issue was that misspelling on? Quote
PFunkJazz Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 If I got a dollar for every time I saw Thelonious Monk mis-spelt, I'd be a rich man. Quote
pryan Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 I've always heard about the "Booby" thing, but have never seen it. What issue was that misspelling on? I'm not sure, but the joke was definitely used a lot on the old BNBB. Quote
Dan Gould Posted September 9, 2003 Author Report Posted September 9, 2003 Wasn't it on the back panel of this one: Quote
Swinging Swede Posted September 9, 2003 Report Posted September 9, 2003 No, the back cover of The Kicker has another misspelling of his name! His last name is misspelt as "Hucherson" (no 't'). It was another reissue that had his first name misspelt as "Booby", but I don't remember which one, although I've seen it. Did someone say something about Blue Note and proofreading? Quote
