Guy Berger Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Oscar P is a guy whose work gets trashed a lot, and I'm not too familiar with the rest of his work, but this is a very nice trio album w/Ray Brown and Ed Thigpen. Very good playing on a good collection of compositions. Oscar's playing is kinda greazy on a few of the songs. Guy Quote
Big Wheel Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 It is a very good album, and one of the few cases where a bonus track is a standout. I don't remember if I've mentioned "This Could Be The Start Of Something" before here, but I love this version even if it's not really complete. It's as hard as you'll hear Oscar swing, and the arrangement is so damn tight... Quote
Tom 1960 Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Thanks Guy for mentioning this one. I just threw this on a short time ago. The songs are on the short side, but the playing is very good. Some bluesy playing which I really enjoy. A nice groove going on here. There is certainly alot to listen to with 17 tracks. Quote
jeffsjazz Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 One of my favorites from OP. Dig It !! Quote
shaft Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 YEAH it's great. And what a great picture by Pete Turner on the cover. I would like to recommend the London House sessions as well by OP. Great live sessions! /Shaft Quote
The Magnificent Goldberg Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 I always LOVED the sleeve. Didn't know it was a Pete Turner job. Never bought, or heard, the album as I'm not keen on OP. MG Quote

OK, he's not an innovator or major trend-setter, but he's one of the most accomplished pianists in jazz & his playing is just plain beautiful, even on his cheesier albums. BTW, has anyone got CD of Fiorello/My Fair Lady for sale or trade? I'm looking hard for this one. Quote
Swinger Posted February 10, 2007 Report Posted February 10, 2007 I should really buy this one.I've borrowed this one from a local library several times but I've never bought it. Really nice album. Quote
