JSngry Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 Probably off the live record that came out last year, the one with Esperanza. It's a fine record. Quote

Milestones Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 Ok, so a 2017 performance of a tune decades old...this for the 2022 awards. Quote
Dub Modal Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 The Grammys operate under their own time lines and genres. Plenty of past controversy over new artists/performances being weirdly recognized years later. Quote

Expand That was the first year they drastically cut down seating at the main stage and we missed what turned out to be the last opportunity to see his great quartet. We sadly checked into our hotel and caught the live stream. During that live stream was the first time I felt my daughter move in the womb. We did catch the set from the live record two days later, though, so I can tell my daughter she heard Wayne in person. Quote

JSngry Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 Yes, but... It appears that the "Academy" is considering it a 2022 release (which it is). Take it up with them and/or whoever waited 5-ish years to put it out. No matter, it's quite the fine record. Quote
Milestones Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 Just saying the Grammys are strange and irrelevant and that they have no connection to my appreciation of Wayne Shorter--or anyone else in music. Quote
Dub Modal Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 Irrelevant to personal tastes, sure. But Samara Joy winning that Best New Artist Grammy was certainly a big deal for her and will/should open up additional doors of exposure for her. Quote
gmonahan Posted February 6, 2023 Report Posted February 6, 2023 Doesn't matter to me when or for what Wayne gets a Grammy, just that he deserves it! Quote

Hoppy T. Frog Posted February 7, 2023 Report Posted February 7, 2023 A 2022 release of a 2017 concert of a 1985 tune on a label revived for the umpteenth time! Quote
JSngry Posted February 7, 2023 Report Posted February 7, 2023 There's now three recorded versions of "Endangered Species" (that I know of), none of them like the other. It's not exactly a blowing tune... Quote
Justin V Posted February 7, 2023 Report Posted February 7, 2023 I remember it being announced at the concert that Geri Allen was originally supposed to be on the gig. Quote
