Lots of Atlantic, Collectables, Laserlight and odd stuff. If you can't find 5 items in the 5 for $25 collection...

4 disc sets of Bud, Clifford, Anita, Cab, Basie...

Some Keith Jarrett (Life Between the Exit Signs), Willis Jackson, Yusef, Bo Diddley, Bessie, Sonny/Brownie, Grassella Oliphant, Eddie Harris, TLIghnin', Elmore, Trane, Cozy Cole, Cootie, McGriff, Mingus, Bonner, Tolliver, Moody, 5X5, Big Bill, Phineas, Ace Cannon, and some utter dreck and scary labels. (And that's just the 5/$25 stuff.)

Books, boxes and DVDs too. 172 Jazz LPs. Reasonable shipping - free over $50. No tax, except in Pennsylvania. Sorry, shipping costs will kill those outside the US.

This is NOT an endorsement. My order ain't showed up yet. (Just placed the order.)

If you can't get to $25, those CDs are like $5.88, so its still a very good deal. And in addition quite a few blues CDs are included as well. I took advantage of the discount on two of the three volumes of Freddie King's King recordings, which they may have called "The Very Best" but they are in reality his entire output. (Two of the three volumes are in the $5 sale, the other is a bit under $12. And I also got the complete Bobbin-King recordings of Albert King, which is a great set at a great price.

So I'll offer an endorsement, as those CDs shipped very quickly when I placed my order (within a day, maybe two) and arrived fast even with Media Mail and were extremely well packed.

And to top that off, you'll get a huge tabloid style catalog of other discs that are $5 each but are not available through the website anymore. Apparently they sold them all to another company, and the catalog runs the gamut of all styles of music, plus a lot of DVDs, too. Can't endorse them, yet, but I do plan to place an order some day.

Oldies.com is the Collectables label website. They had a massive sale several years ago, and I picked up a ton of 60's garage stuff at $2.99 each. Order came fine - you won't have any problem with them.

maybe if we stop buying from them they will get out of the game and someone else will take over.

i mean these POS don't really seem to care much about the quality of their product. just about getting it out there.

But at least they're trying to get it out there. Collectibles/Oldies generally releases stuff they license from the majors, and the majors don't want to bother with. Doubt too many others would want to bother with it either. One can criticize them for their (sometimes) crappy mastering, but they really do care about releasing stuff that nobody else gives a damn about. I'm always amazed by the esoteric music that they offer... and only a fraction of it's jazz.

What the hell is this about? I don't like the way Collectables has paired up some old recordings for reissue, but what makes them "pieces of shit"?? And what could possibly be wrong with an extensive selection of discs at $5 a piece?

And while we're on the subject, may I ask, did you recently change your username? I've never noticed your posts til today, yet here you are with 1100+.

well as far as jazz goes, they seemingly randomly pair together albums.

they OMIT songs from albums to make their bizarre pairings work, on occasion.

the mastering sucks sometimes.

i'm sorry-but they are not putting a good product out there.

i would rather wait 500 years for atlantic to reissue some of this stuff themselves.

and atlantic does seem to have some sort of random reissue program which might possibly still be running.

i am not seeing much love and care here. just a desire to get a lot of cheap product out to the market.

i just wanted to change my name and thought to myself "what is the worst real name i could possibly have that i am thankful i was not given at birth?" and donald peterson was the first name to come to mind.

but i can switch to something else.

How does one change their user name?

Does anyone have any recommendations--soundwise--where the remastering is good? I picked up a Basie and a Goodman reissue of Columbia material a few years ago and the sound in both cases was poor (even allowing for the original sources as 78s). Also, sound issues are probably complicated by the fact that many of these are Atlantic reissues and are probably taken from second or third generation tapes (b/c of the Atlantic warehouse fire).

you might be right about the source of the sound problems but i know for instance, atlantic has a semi-active reissue series (the ones with the red and black writing on the left side of the covers) and if you compare the sound quality, the atlantic remasters sound a lot better. unless i am imagining this.

again, i don't like these guys because there doesn't seem to be much care or respect going into the issuing of this excellent jazz music. and the fact that they are cranking this stuff out probably precludes better outfits, like water, from attempting to bring out the same material.

I'd rather be Donald Peterson than Dick Trickle any day!
