Hardbopjazz
Those that have this, what do you think of it? I just gave this a new listen tonight and can't decide if I like it.
Alexander Hawkins
I think it's extraordinary, although I know lots of people are unsure...The 'thinking aloud' aspect of the thing is fascinating IMHO. But for me, Rollins is such a giant that even listening to him 'struggle' in a musical setting is of interest. But I don't think he's 'struggling' here, in any real sense. It's interesting (perhaps not surprising, though?) that Sonny worries standards for a lot of his improvisation here, rather than going 'free'. Lazaro Vega
Yes, I dig it, though haven't listened in years.
danasgoodstuff
For me it's a matter of context, when he goes solo unexpectedly at the end of a song it's exciting, this isn't...
JSngry
To me, it's Sonny practicing in a free-association type way. It'll either be fascinating or boring as hell depending on how that type thing intrests you. I'm in the former camp muself, but indivdiual mileages will vary dramatically. bluesbro
I'm a big fan of this date. I stumbled on this CD at the used CD store. I didnt know it existed. Underrated IMHO.
