I need help finding solo/ duet books for clarinet. I'm gonna do an audition so I just need recomendations on what music books I should buy.

what i mostly played in auditions is Lajos Dudas "Recital" I don't know whether this is available in the US, the publisher is Dohr www.dohr.de i think it is a nice alternative to the technically much harder "standard" solo pieces such as Stravinsky 3 pieces for clarinet solo or Sutermeister Cappriccio (which are of course highly recommended i don't know how good you play, but i think it takes a lot of time til you can play these with confidence in an audition unless you are quite advanced) the Dudas has a wide range of tempos and high and deep notes in it so you can show something. besides it takes about 7 minutes, but you can meaningfully leave out the fourth (and last) movement (5 minutes) or play only the third (3 minutes)... which makes it adaptable to different audition formats. it has a nice flow to it and might still appeal to people who are a somewhat (not too much) afraid of things avantgarde... it reminds many listeners of jazz but i don't really know why (not too surprising given the composer though)

welcome to this board! glad you stumbled across my comment; of course you're right - given that i have tremendously enjoyed your recital for more than ten years - i should try some of your other stuff the next time i reactivate my clarinet playing... (advanced level... i will see what advanced level means, when i started playing Reciatal at age 14 this was about the hardest thing i could do technically, at 19 i could play Stravinsky half-decently and get some fun out of it (though mostly not when other people were around ) these days things don't look that bright...

started on clarinet, took me years to realize everyone else had an easier time with their f's

edit to add: don't you also play guitar (where all "registers" are different)?

yeah, but the way it's set up it's all relative - after you find the scale or key tone, everything else is the same as everywhere else on the fretboard -

same thing with the two registers of the clarinet (?) (well, almost the same thing at least with an Oehler clarinet there are little differences don't know about Boehm; besides, of course i know what you mean)
