Tjazz Posted February 4, 2007 Report Posted February 4, 2007 There are some clarinet websites. A quick google on clarinets should help you. Quote

Niko Posted February 7, 2007 Report Posted February 7, 2007 what i mostly played in auditions is Lajos Dudas "Recital" I don't know whether this is available in the US, the publisher is Dohr www.dohr.de i think it is a nice alternative to the technically much harder "standard" solo pieces such as Stravinsky 3 pieces for clarinet solo or Sutermeister Cappriccio (which are of course highly recommended i don't know how good you play, but i think it takes a lot of time til you can play these with confidence in an audition unless you are quite advanced) the Dudas has a wide range of tempos and high and deep notes in it so you can show something. besides it takes about 7 minutes, but you can meaningfully leave out the fourth (and last) movement (5 minutes) or play only the third (3 minutes)... which makes it adaptable to different audition formats. it has a nice flow to it and might still appeal to people who are a somewhat (not too much) afraid of things avantgarde... it reminds many listeners of jazz but i don't really know why (not too surprising given the composer though) hope this helps a little! eLDe Posted February 10, 2008 Report Posted February 10, 2008 I read with enjoy that my RECITAL is recommended, even alternatively to the Solopieces by Strawinsky. Also recommendable VALSE POUR CLARINETTE by me, posibly the same level like Recital. If somebody gladly liked to know, how I play my pieces myself, so I can recommend the CD - Lajos Dudas MUSIC FOR CLARINET / 1997 - The most quickly way to order the CD is directly about me. www.lajosdudas.de For solo/duet try 9 MINIATUREN for 1-2 Clarinets - advanced level - also by me. (advanced level... i will see what advanced level means, when i started playing Reciatal at age 14 this was about the hardest thing i could do technically, at 19 i could play Stravinsky half-decently and get some fun out of it (though mostly not when other people were around ) these days things don't look that bright... AllenLowe Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 sorry - clarinet is too damned hard to play - where I come from, an F should remain an F in all registers - Quote
Niko Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 (edited) sorry - clarinet is too damned hard to play - where I come from, an F should remain an F in all registers - started on clarinet, took me years to realize everyone else had an easier time with their f's edit to add: don't you also play guitar (where all "registers" are different)? AllenLowe Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 yeah, but the way it's set up it's all relative - after you find the scale or key tone, everything else is the same as everywhere else on the fretboard - Quote
Niko Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 yeah, but the way it's set up it's all relative - after you find the scale or key tone, everything else is the same as everywhere else on the fretboard - same thing with the two registers of the clarinet (?) (well, almost the same thing at least with an Oehler clarinet there are little differences don't know about Boehm; besides, of course i know what you mean) Quote
