mikeweil Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 (edited) Has anyone heard this? Shew is not one that I associate with this type of music ... Edited February 1, 2007 by mikeweil Quote
mikeweil Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 Found out he was raised in Albuquerque .... that explains some. Samples here - sounds nice. Quote
DMP Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 I have it - nice, but unexpected! Sort of slipped under the radar screen. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 In the liner notes, I believe Shew talks about why he chose to do this record. I believe he says that he used to play in salsa bands in the New Mexico area and that he never lost his love of it. This is a really good CD. I believe it's been out of print for a long time so it may not be easy to find. FWIW, it's encoded with HDCD which may be part of the reason why it sounds so good. It's an audiophile recording. The brass is bright & edgy but not painfully harsh. If you play it back loud, it screams. I always crank this one up when I spin it, so obviously I don't spin it when the wife is home. Quote
mikeweil Posted February 1, 2007 Author Report Posted February 1, 2007 CD Universe lists it as available for $ 13.49 ..... Quote
DukeCity Posted February 1, 2007 Report Posted February 1, 2007 This past fall, Bobby relocated back to Albuquerque, and we've played together a couple of times since. Of course, we're thrilled to have him around! Bobby and the rest of the guys sound great on this CD. It's not super gritty New Yorican stuff, but grooves like crazy. Quote
