Soul Stream Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 I've paid for a couple of downloads lately (walmart and an artist's site) and they've come as wma files. I want to put them in my itunes/ipod. How can i get them in there! thanks for any help Quote
rostasi Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Don't know if you're on a Mac or PC, but the beginning of this solution is for PC with a link at the end of it for Mac users: http://tinyurl.com/ek28g hope it helps! Rod Quote
Soul Stream Posted January 28, 2007 Author Report Posted January 28, 2007 Thanks Rotasi. I actually realized that my itunes will automatically convert a wav file that I try to add. However, the wav files I'm trying to add have been copy protected somehow and won't convert. I'm not sure why these folks who offer these downloads like this make it so you can't get them into itunes. Quote

There are a number of software solutions to break copy protection, but the other option is the way I usually go. You simply play the files and rerecord them (using TotalRecorder or something similar) as new wav files without any copy protection and then do what you want with them. I agree though, it's a total drag to have to do this. Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 I believe if you burn this as a CD, you'll be able afterwards to extract them into a format that will be useful. Quote
md655321 Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Alot of WMAs are protected against burning them as well. Quote

Claude Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Alot of WMAs are protected against burning them as well. WMA files from Walmart can be burned to CD-R(W), using Windows Media Player. http://www.walmart.com/swap/Help.do?mainCategoryId=441016 Because an audio CD-R is DRM-free by nature, this removes all limitations. The audio CD can be ripped and the files saved in any format. Quote
Soul Stream Posted January 28, 2007 Author Report Posted January 28, 2007 My problem is that my computer CD burner is not working. This whole thing really pisses me off. I mean, I paid good money for these downloads and now I can't load them into my ipod without a bunch of bs. this sucks. when are these guys gonna wake up and realize that copy protecting these downloads is ultimately going to lose them money. Not the other way around. I won't be buying from them again. Back to the itunes music store for me. Quote
JSngry Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 Is your drive still under warranty, extended or otherwise? If so, problem solved! If not, time to get a new drive. Copy protection sucks, but it don't cause drives to fail. Quote

I would recommend not ever buying DRM files. Most sources that sell protected WMAs are pretty upfront about the fact that they wont work in ipods. Did you read the info on this site you got these files from? Quote
