Best tennis I've ever seen.:o:mellow::unsure::wacko::crazy::excited::eye:

Federer's second break in set 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6k5MXb_cfKs

Q. What was it like for you just being there at the end of that?

ANDY RODDICK: It was frustrating. You know, it was miserable. It sucked. It was terrible. Besides that, it was fine.

Q. What did Jimmy say to you straight after the game?

ANDY RODDICK: He gave me a beer.

It's been rilly strange - and not a little wonderful - watching the whole thing unfold in my hometown while Bennie and I have been staying at my Mum's place in NZ. Going home today, though, so I'll be wtaching the 2nd men's semi and the finals at home.

Gonzalez was fantastic against Nadal, and I can't see Haas beating him. Federer is another matter. Sure, he played great against Roddick, but the American also self-destrcted to a degree.

I was happy to see Nadal beaten, as I kinda think his gamesmanship falls into a grey area that sails pretty close to cheating.

Just like Sharapova's orgasm schtick.

Never been a Serena fan, but props to her for getting through. Real gutsy.

I read a buffoon NZ commentator - in the throes of trashing the women's game at the Open - saying Serena is overweight. I dunno - looks just the same to me. And I certainly wouldn't want to run into Williams in the bowels of Melbourne Park having written that and having her perused it!

i hope serena can destroy shara-poo-poo

it's a battle of the big gals

Yeah, but Maria is tall and skinny and Serena .... isn't.

Although I have to say that Mary Carillo on ESPN.com wrote that Serena has played her way into shape this tournament, that her clothes looked tight at the start, and she looked chunky, but that now they look loose.

Sorry Jeff, I just can't deal with that Serena booty.

At the same time, I can't deal with Sharapova's "orgasm shtick" :D but there's an answer for that: put on some jazz or blues and leave the sound off.

I guess the women's final is Friday night at 9 pm in the states? (Eastern) I hope it doesn't go too late, I do want to see it.

I will give Serena her props though in that only the Williams sisters seem capable of taking so much time off, getting hurt, watching their rating plummet, and then come into a Grand Slam and reach the final and have a strong shot at winning it all.

As far as the men go, it would take an act of God to beat Federer. Just like it would take something extraordinary to keep him from beating (and maybe obliterating) Pete's Slam record. He's the Tiger Woods of professional tennis, and a wonder to behold. (He's also clearly the superior athlete than Tiger, but that's another argument for another thread).

The Sharapova-Williams match should be interesting which probably won't be the case of Federer vs victim.

:g

Your sig furnishes an appropriate metaphor for the latter matchup...

I know you're happy Jeff, but damn what a disappointment, both results-wise and as competition.

I guess I agree with you regarding the competition-aspect, but I think it is a pretty cool back-story. Serena comes out of nowhere, plays her way back into shape during the tournament and stomps all over the pretty Russian. It's like Rocky IV but the guys are in drag and Rocky and Apollo had a mindmeld, or something like that. Anyway, I wish Serena the best for the next year on the circuit. She has always been my favorite female tennis player, though I have never seen her play live. I managed to see Venus win in a gutsy semi-finals match at the US Open one year, and that was cool too.

Incredible match so far. Victim just had two set points. :excited:

Serena quote from latest Sports Illustrated:

"I'm definitely in better shape than I get credit for. [it's] just because I have large bosoms and a big ass... I was just in the locker room staring at my body, and I'm like, 'Am I really not fit? Or is it just because I have all these extra assets that I look not fit?' I think if I were not to eat for two years, I still wouldn't be a size two. We're living in the Mary-Kate Olsen world. I'm just not built that way. I'm bootylicious, and that's how it's always going to be."
