The rest of the sessions are unknown (sessions D-I, EE). Produced for release by Scott Wenzel with Michael Cuscuna Concept: Richard Sudhalter and Scott Wenzel Disc transfers: Andreas Meyer Tape transfers: Debra Parkinson 24-bit mastering: Malcolm Addey Sessions X-EE are in stereo. All others are mono. Special thanks to George Avakian, Michael Brooks, Marian McPartland, Dan Morgenstern and The Institute Of Jazz Studies. Producer’s note: The sound quality will differ slightly from session to session as we used the original master tapes for most of the transfers and lacquer discs when necessary. Discs were used for the Bud Freeman And His Famous Chicagoans session and portions of the George Wettling, Bobby Hackett and Jimmy Dorsey dates. Although there is some lacquer wear on portions of the Freeman date (in particular, the master takes of Jack Hits The Road and After Awhile), returning to the source gave us the best possible sound. The source for the Billy Butterfield session comes from the original binaural job reels and offers us a much cleaner sound than on the issued LP. However, there are edits that unexpectedly jump from solo to solo at times particularly on That Da Da Strain and Louisiana. Jimmy McPartland’s The Music Man album is presented here for the first time in stereo, remixed from the original three-track tape. However, Ya Got Trouble remains in mono because McPartland’s vocal was missing from the three-track master reel. Some titles (like the two Wild Bill Davison with strings tracks, Wettling’s After You’ve Gone and Jimmy Dorsey’s Muskrat Ramble) are out of phase on the master tape and there are occasional drop-outs particularly on Jimmy McPartland's Sugar Foot Strut and the Rampart Street Paraders' Black and Blue. There is also some distortion on the Wild Bill with strings tracks and South Rampart Street Parade by the RSPs. Scott Wenzel 8 CDs - $128.00 Edited January 22, 2007 by Soulstation1 Quote
