Mythic Sound recordings of Bud Powell

Does anyone know of the status or the availability of the recordings that Francis Paudras did of Bud Powell? I have been able to find three of them on compact disc and would really want to have a complete collection.

I haven't seen any copies for sale in a shop or online for a long time. . . .

I did purchase nine from an acquaintance and resold them at cost to another here last year. Lucky and unusual break!

Same here. Saw a couple of the CDs up for grabs a couple of years ago. And nothing since!

The only thing Mythic about these issues is their scarcity!

There are two CDs (plus half of the CD "Bebop") on Fantasy, sampling material from the Paudras recordings. Some of it may also be on Black Lion, I think.

Saw a link to this record company in another post and noticed this cd. The samples sound interesting.

This 'Eternity' material adds previously unissued tunes that were part of the Francis Paudras collection of unreleased Bud. Most of it was recorded at Paudras' home.

None of the sides were in the Mythic Sounds albums.

I emailed Mosaic a couple of years ago asking if they ever considered doing the Paudras' stuff in cd. According to MC, the Powell estate wanted too much money for the rights, thinking that there was a big market for these tapes. A lost chance for Mosaic that I've always regretted.

Looking at covers, I am pretty sure I stumbled on some of them in my vinyl's shops wandering. Never bought one, I always assumed they were bad recorded collections of stuff available on other labels, some sort of italian bootlegs. And they were really cheap.

Next time I'll not miss the shot.

Now this would be a really great set to have! I think I have about 5 CDs of the Mythic Sound material, but would love to hear the whole set on vinyl. Too rich for my blood already (over $600 with some 10 hours to go)... but at least I copied the album cover jpegs for future reference. Thanks Brownie!

Has anything of significance transpired over the past 5 years regarding the Mythic Sound (plus unreleased) material - was it ever released as a box set (CD or LP) rather than individual CD's or LP's

I have a whole bunch of these - as a matter of fact I tried to sell them here, for very low prices a few years ago, but couldn't find anyone who wanted them, Glad I held onto them.

I've seen two different box colors of this lp set.  Red and Blue.  Does anyone know why there were two different ones?   Also, I think vol. 1-10 were on individual cd's and only vol. 11 was in the lp set.

Right, Vol. 11 ("A Gift to my Friends") was not released (to my knowledge) on cd.

Yes I didn't think so.  As far as the color of the boxes, I wonder if maybe Red was the first 500 sets and Blue the last 500.  I haven't been able to find out so far.
