Noj
Is there more to the documentary? I'd like to see more interviews and more music. Funky drumming and a solid groove are something I love to hear--even if there isn't a great solo accompanying it. Paul Humphrey's album Supermellow has some FUNKY drumming. ep1str0phy
It's a full-length movie. Some of the links on the side of the youtube video (the ones that say "Keeping Time") are from the same documentary.
DukeCity
Nice. A while back I picked up a documentary called "Scratch" that got into the history of turntabling, and there were some scenes of guys hanging out and "jamming" with each other. Quite an eye-opener to some of the possibilities...
ep1str0phy
Yeah, they played "Scratch" on the same pay cable network that I got this doc on. And yeah--this is a legitimate branch of improv. Edited January 25, 2007 by ep1str0phy
mikeweil
That's a real nice one. Herbie Hancock had a similarly percussive scratcher on his Future to Future tour, introduced him "Can this guy play?" He could! There are three very nice instructional videos on New Orleans drumming, with Herlin Riley, Earl Palmer and others, that are a good view even for non musicians, they include plenty of good band footage performing live tracks. I see all three are now on one DVD: info and samples here. Edited January 25, 2007 by mikeweil
