Newk Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 I'm in the market for a new set of floor speakers. I've listened to the stuff at Best Buy and Circuit city (Klipsh and Boston Acoustics) but I kind of like the Paradigm Moniter 9 speakers. Anyone know anything about them? Anyone have any speakers suggestions in the $1000 a pair price range. If I were to buy tomorrow I think I would go for the Paradigms. I've never heard of them before but they sound very nice for the price to me. Anything else I should listen to before I buy? Thanks! Quote
eeegor Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 (edited) I bought the Paradigm Monitor 7's back in October. I am quite smitten with them! I can't stand boomy, thumping bass, and these speakers offer incredible detail and imaging. I've always thought that a speakers should just 'disappear' in the music, and these do just that. I believe the Monitor 9's are a similarly well regarded speaker, the difference being a slightly larger footprint and an increased output. Edited January 22, 2007 by eeegor Quote
porcy62 Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 Since I am not in US, I have no idea of the prices, so check it out before, but my suggestion would be for Triangle (french) and Dynaudio (Danish), I listened to them a lot, my sister got a pair of Triangle, and I used to have a Dynaudio at work as studio monitors. Though I probably listen to some more expensive products of the above brands. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 I have owned a set of Paradigm Reference Studio/20 speakers for about 6 years. They are excellent. Before I purchased them I listened to a number of other speakers in the same price range and the Paradigm's were definitely the ones I preferred. I later discovered that the speakers that I bought have received great reviews from a variety of audiophile publications. Quote
Quincy Posted January 24, 2007 Report Posted January 24, 2007 I hadn't heard of Paradigm either before buying my pair a few years ago. Part of the reason why they cost less is that aren't spending much on advertising (unlike say, Bose.) Like eeegor I like the clarity & imaging, though it's probably not a speaker for bassheads (I'm not.) But go ahead and take up some of the salesman's time and give all that fit your budget a spin, as speakers are very personal. Quote
Peter Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Paradigm has an excellent reputation for delivering a lot of sound for the money. I've had a pair of Atoms in my office for many years. I'm thinking about the Monitor 7s for home. The Paradigm website (http://www.paradigm.com/Website/News/news3.html) has links to reviews. List is $649. Quote
Z-Man Posted January 25, 2007 Report Posted January 25, 2007 Haven't heard Paradigms in a while, but remember liking them when I did. It might stretch the budget a little, but I can give another big thumbs up to Dynaudio. Was VERY impressed when I listened to their bookshelfs a few months ago. Quote
