brownie Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 Robert Bregman, one of the authorities on all things Charlie Parker, has some 60 tapes of rare Bird material up for auction on eBay. Rare music of Charlie Parker tapes Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 18, 2007 Report Posted January 18, 2007 if hes such an authority whys he sellin em off like this. he better not sell them to an idiot Quote
DMP Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Hopefully the folks at "Lonehill" will pick them up. (Or maybe "Collectables" - they could be paired with Chris Connor.) Quote
(BB) Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Any pre-auction estimates? More than $10,000 ? Quote
Dan Gould Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Do we even know if these are complete performances or Bird solos only? If I were the seller I'd give more details or else use an image hoster to show more of the backs of these tape boxes. Quote
medjuck Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Does it anywhere state that these are unreleased or are we all just inferring it? BTW Bregman wrote the liner notes for the excellent Charlie Parker at Birdland Ember 4 cd set. Quote
brownie Posted January 19, 2007 Author Report Posted January 19, 2007 Don't think there is any unreleased music. Trust it would have been mentioned if there was. These tapes are the original ones that were used when those rare Charlie Parker appearances made it to record albums on various official and non-official releases. And a number of people realize the value of these original tapes. The current top bid is over 3K by now! Quote
John L Posted January 19, 2007 Report Posted January 19, 2007 Hopefully the folks at "Lonehill" will pick them up. (Or maybe "Collectables" - they could be paired with Chris Connor.) Lonehill never pays anything for the music that it releases as a matter of principle. Quote

JohnBlutarski Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 if hes such an authority whys he sellin em off like this. he better not sell them to an idiot or to a museum? Quote
Spontooneous Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 eBay says: MANY OF THESE TAPES ARE EITHER SECOND GENERATION COPIES FROM THE ORIGINAL OR ARE THE ACTUAL TAPE USED TO RECORD BIRD LIVE! The photo looks like a bunch of 3M and Radio Shack reels from the '70s. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted January 20, 2007 Report Posted January 20, 2007 Lonehill never pays anything for the music that it releases as a matter of principle. Thank god at least someone still has some principles in this day and age. Quote
(BB) Posted January 22, 2007 Report Posted January 22, 2007 "The seller ended this listing early because the item is no longer available for sale." Hmmmm. Quote
