Teasing the Korean Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Does anyone have any details on this upcoming release? I'm hoping it has some music from Polanski's "Repulsion." Dusty Groove says it will be out in Feb. I can't find any track listings online. Quote
brownie Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 No idea what's going to be on that one and if it will have the soundtrack from 'Repulsion' (don't think the music made it to disc) but I'm sure it will have the music from this remarkable film: Quote

I think of that more as an Elmer Bernstein score for whatever reason. Do you have that record? Was there a SSoS Chico Hamilton album and an Elmer Bernstein soundtrack? Quote
brownie Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Yes, there was an album of Elmer Bernstein's music for that film out on Decca but the album shown on the previous post is all Chico Hamilton. The music on the record was penned by Fred Katz and Chico Hamilton. All quintet music (with Paul Horn, Joe Pisano, Carson Smith) except for two tracks which have uncredited appearances by Conte Candoli and Frank Rosolino (I'm pretty sure of those two). Quote
jazzbo Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 On this page for the newish release it says http://www.soundtrackcollector.com/catalog...p?movieid=77876 Also contains music from Repulsion and Sweet Smell of Success Quote

ghost of miles Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Finally, finally, finally. I've been trying to track down Chico's SUCCESS music for ages... would've bought it in 8-track-tape form if necessary. Thanks so much for posting this, TTK. Quote
Guest youmustbe Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 If I remember there is at least one scene of Chico and the band playing in a club. What's that Bette Davis movie with the Kenny Dennis Trio playing in a bar? Where she kills her twin sister. Quote
chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 waitwaitwaitwait are you talking about the one where catherine is in black and white, and she is cooped up in her apartment, with the rotting fish in the pan, and she goes nuts and is totally crazy? Quote
brownie Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 (edited) Yes chewy. That one! Directed by Roman Polanski, music by Chico Hamilton! Guess you did not pay attention to Chico's music cause you werbe too absorbed with Catherine Deneuve's wardrobe Edited January 15, 2007 by brownie Quote
king ubu Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 chewy is nutz! he was so much looking forward to Deneuve acting all crazy he didn't even read the credit for Chico having the done the soundtrack! Great film, as is "Sweet Smell of Success" - both with terrific soundtracks! Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted January 15, 2007 Author Report Posted January 15, 2007 On a related note, Fred Katz's score for the original 1960 "Little Shop of Horrors" deserves to be reissued on CD. It came out on a Rhino LP in the 80s, and is well worth tracking down. This score seems to be a well-kept secret. It features that nervous, angular, dissonant, geometric jazz sound you hear in 1950s and 60s European soundtracks. Quote
B. Clugston Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 If I remember there is at least one scene of Chico and the band playing in a club. I think there's at least two with Chico's band and Martin Milner pretending to play guitar. One of them is fairly long scene. Chico may even have a small speaking part, if I recall correctly. Great film with some great lines: "The cat's in the bag and the bag's in the river." Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 15, 2007 Author Report Posted January 15, 2007 (edited) Another, from Lancaster's character: "Sidney, conjugate me a verb; for instance--to promise. You promised to break up that romance." Edited January 15, 2007 by Teasing the Korean Quote
