robviti Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 This Monday marks the 78th anniversary of the birth of Martin Luther King, Jr. On Monday evening, Eric Jackson hosts my favorite jazz radio show of the year. From 8pm-midnight EST on Boston's WGBH 89.7, Jackson features excerpts from King's speeches and the great jazz music inspired by his ideals. Here's an example: If you want to say that I was a drum major, say that I was a drum major for justice. Say that I was a drum major for peace. Say that I was a drum major for righteousness ... I won't have the fine and luxurious things in life to leave behind. But I just want to leave a committed life behind ... If I can help somebody as I pass along, if I can cheer somebody with a word or song, if I can show somebody he is traveling wrong, then my living will not be in vain. –From The Drum Major Instinct, 1968 You can hear the live stream of the show here: WGBH Just click on the "radio" icon on the left, then click on the "listen live" icon. Enjoy! Quote
ghost of miles Posted January 14, 2007 Report Posted January 14, 2007 Will undoubtedly be worth catching--I used to tune in "Eric in the Evening" on my little Internet desk computer when I worked nights at the library. Lots of respect for how much WGBH devotes to jazz. Quote
