Bluesnik Posted January 4, 2014 Report Posted January 4, 2014 All day I've been deeply into Lovely stuff! MG I listened to this today (disc 10) and I totally agree. Quote
B. Goren. Posted January 15, 2014 Report Posted January 15, 2014 This morning I've listened to all 5 CDs. Quote
martini Posted January 19, 2014 Report Posted January 19, 2014 Vandermark 5: Alchemia (Discs 1-3 so far, with #3 spinning now) It has been awhile since I've pulled this one out. I had forgotten how good it really is. It has a tremendous mix of everything. Quote
jeffcrom Posted January 27, 2014 Report Posted January 27, 2014 Miles Davis - Dig, from the Complete Prestige box. I don't listen to this session often, because everyone involved did better later. But I'm enjoying it quite a bit tonight - the musicians were mostly at the top of their 1951 game. Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted January 28, 2014 Report Posted January 28, 2014 Finished the Resonance 10 CD box - now on to the DKV Trio 7 CD NotTwo box - currently on CD #2. CD # 2 is spectacular, IMO Quote
jeffcrom Posted January 29, 2014 Report Posted January 29, 2014 John Coltrane - Live Trane: The European Tours (Pablo), disc seven. There has been some dissatisfaction expressed here with this set, but I would not willingly part with it. Quote
king ubu Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 disc 5 again - the quartet date with Raymond Fol - beautiful stuff, too bad the final tape reel (on it two more complete takes of "Everything Happens to Me" as well as the lost "What Is There to Say" in one complete take) is missing! Quote
Bluesnik Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 An interesting box about a minor and partly unknown West Coast label. Quote
king ubu Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Very nice one indeed! Too bad there never was a second volume ... I didn't manage to snatch up a few Fantasy discs containing some more Nocturne material while they were easy to find ... Quote
Bluesnik Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 Yes, I don't know what happened to vols.2 and 3. They were planned but never materialized. Quote
king ubu Posted February 3, 2014 Report Posted February 3, 2014 I think I read (somewhere here, where else) that Vol. 1 didn't sell well enough so the follow-up(s) were shelved. There were to be two more? That much more material? What a missed opportunity! Guess people prefer to buy the seventeenth reissue of some Miles or BN classic before trying Steve White. Maybe they're right, what do I know ... Quote
Bluesnik Posted February 4, 2014 Report Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) I also thought that they didn't sell well enough. Just my imagination. And about the three volumes which were planned and at least announced I guess I deduced that of the booklet. But it would have been a lot of material. For me a 3 CD-box is enough, but it's a pity for all the material that could have been reissued. And I think this Harry Babasin-Roy Harte run label only operated for about two years: from 54 to 56. jeffcrom Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 Charlie Parker - Complete Dial Sessions (Stash). The Earl Coleman/Erroll Garner session from disc two. Might just let the disc keep playing and listen to the "Relaxin' at Camarillo" session as well. Quote
sidewinder Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 An interesting box about a minor and partly unknown West Coast label. Picked up a great condition SH copy of this last year. Lucky find ! Quote
Scott Dolan Posted February 9, 2014 Report Posted February 9, 2014 John Coltrane - Live Trane: The European Tours (Pablo), disc seven. There has been some dissatisfaction expressed here with this set, but I would not willingly part with it. Nor would I. There is some excellent playing across all of those discs. And remixing everything back down to mono greatly improves the sound quality over the original Pablo CDs. Quote
