AllenLowe Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 (edited) just re- that Count Basie/Columbia box - when I was re-mastering the small-group version of Going To Chicago for my blues thing, I was somewhat shocked to hear that the version on the old Superchief LP sounded significantly better than the one on the CD box - they did just a little too much noise reduction on it, sad to say. The Magnificent Goldberg Posted September 25, 2009 Report Posted September 25, 2009 Today's been a day for Cab Calloway & his Orchestra Volume 1: 1930-1934 - JSP Volume 2: 1934-1940 - JSP Nine solid hours of total hipness! Oh, I just love this band more than any other, I think. MG Quote
John Tapscott Posted September 27, 2009 Report Posted September 27, 2009 (edited) Count Basie - The Complete Decca Recordings - 3 CD's (GRP) - a great set , even better, I think than the America's #1 Band set on Columbia (though I'm glad I have them both). Yes, the music is better on the Decca set. No "dis" to the Columbias - you need those too. Quote

mikelz777 Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 John Coltrane - The Prestige Recordings With all the talk about the cheap sets of his Prestige material I thought I'd re-visit my old set. Quote
spinlps Posted October 6, 2009 Report Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) I loaded the set into iTunes last night and hit random play on the commute in this morning. Some great, great stuff there. And I only paid $20 for the box! The shop had another copy at that price if anyone wants me to pick it up for them. PM me. First two discs of Joe Henderson's Milestone Box. Ken Dryden Posted October 14, 2009 Report Posted October 14, 2009 I was just about to buy Oscar Peterson: Debut: The Clef Mercury Duo Recordings 1949-1951 and the Ella Fitzgerald: Twelve Nights in Hollywood boxed sets, when both of them, plus Billie Holiday's Master Takes of the Commodore and Decca Recordings, showed up on my porch yesterday, courtesy of Regina Joskow-Duncan, the wonderful publicist at Verve. An earlier email indicated that no promos were going out on these limited edition sets, but she made a few exceptions for a few lucky souls. Quote
