Duke Ellington - The Blanton-Webster Band 4 Lp boxed set on Bluebird. I don't normally listen to music made before '48 or '49 or so...but this was only $12...sealed and perfect! Very nice...different than hard bop...that's for sure. This sounds nice I guess, considering the era it was recorded. The credits state is was digitally remastered. A pity...for an Lp set.

These must've been originally recorded on disc, correct? They sound real clean, with decent fidelity. Or is there some JSP or Proper box with better sound? As I have nothing to compare this to, I can't tell if this set may be the victim of some serious noise reduction or other digital nasties...

I guess I should read the essay/booklet...I hit that point a year or two ago where I just don't take the time to read liner notes/booklets anymore...

Does that happen to everyone?

All the time. I used to read the booklets religiously, but nowadays I just put the cd in and hardly ever take the booklet out to see what it says. I simply don't have the time to do it anymore :rfr

Miles Davis Cellar door. Good introduction to the Corner sessions that I am still waiting!

Prepare to be astounded, Yves !

Strangely enough, listening to the 'Corner' box got me reaching for the 'Cellar Door' too.

Over the weekend, I played the 3CD Dizzy Set (from Savoy, but also including sessions for some other small labels, as well as 50/51 dates from Dee Gee) - pretty fine! The early dates with Bird I have elsewhere, but those RCA Dizzy big band dates are a blast, and some of the small band stuff with John Brown and Sonny Stitt is mighty fine, too!

I'm presently listening to Disc 3 of the Joe Henderson Milestone Years box set. Disc 3 contains the live performances from the Lighthouse Cafe in 1970. On the track "A Shade Of Jade" Woody Shaw just kicks ass! Nice version of "Round Midnight" also.
