jazzbo Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 "Bettered" may be personal taste and system dependent. To me the Wilder set sounds better on my system. . . I think that ADC equipment may have improved in the time in between. The Columbia set contains the live album and a second live disc of previously unreleased material from the live album: The Complete Woody Shaw Columbia Albums Collection (6 CDs): 1. Rosewood (1977) 2. Stepping Stones (1978) 3. Stepping Stones Bonus Tracks 4. Woody III (1979) 5. For Sure! (1979) 6. United (1981) The Mosaic set contains: Columbia JC 35309 - Woody Shaw - Rosewood. * Columbia JC 35977 - Woody Shaw - Woody Three. * Columbia FC 36383 - Woody Shaw - For Sure!. * Columbia FC 37390 - Woody Shaw - United. I wouldn't have expected the sound of a Malcolm Addey mastered set to be bettered by a Mark Wilder mastered set. Also didn't realize that the Columbia set contained more music. Appreciate the info! 👍 .... the "Stepping Stones" bonus material is worth the ticket of entry alone and testament for rather unheralded Carter Jefferson discussed here recently .... Quote

Joe Bip Posted November 28 Report Posted November 28 Charlie Parker Mercury & Clef 10-Inch LP Collection Maybe not a box set, strictly speaking, but I'm starting to listen to the Ahmad Jamal Emerald City Nights: Live at the Penthouse 1960s sessions, recorded at the same place where Coltrane performed in 1965 and that I've heard is now a parking lot. On deck are the Black Saint/Soul Note box sets collecting albums by Kenny Wheeler, Roscoe Mitchell, and Oliver Lake, some of which I already have, others are new to me. Quote
