Bluesnik Posted July 2, 2021 Report Posted July 2, 2021 Oh, this box is so good. I only wish more of this material would be released. Quote
jazzbo Posted July 2, 2021 Report Posted July 2, 2021 It's all out there, but out of print now for the most part. It would be great if this were to be represented in the present excellent technology on cd. .. but it won't happen. Quote

mikeweil Posted July 4, 2021 Report Posted July 4, 2021 Is there a better choice for a Sunday soundtrack than some Pres? Right now, I'm listening to disc two. Let me see how far I get. Quote
Bluesnik Posted July 9, 2021 Report Posted July 9, 2021 Lots of Mezz Mezzrow and Sidney Bechet. And there are lots of spoken interludes by Mezzrow too. After all he was the cofounder. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted July 10, 2021 Report Posted July 10, 2021 (edited) Technicolor Paradise, Disc 2. Â Edited July 10, 2021 by Teasing the Korean Quote
miles65 Posted July 16, 2021 Report Posted July 16, 2021 Benny Goodman 'The complete RCA Victor small group recordings' Disc 1. Had not played this for a long time. Almost forgot how good this is. Â Quote
miles65 Posted July 16, 2021 Report Posted July 16, 2021 Continued with disc 2 and now playing disc 3. Quote
Ken Dryden Posted July 16, 2021 Report Posted July 16, 2021 I am listening to the second LP of this five record set. Quote
miles65 Posted July 18, 2021 Report Posted July 18, 2021 (edited) After playing Benny Goodman 'The complete RCA Victor small group recordings' for the second time this week-end I'm baffeled that I didn't remember it better. The only track I don't like is 'Sweet Lorraine' beacause of the brushes as used by Dave Tough. My first tought was that the master was damaged. Now playing 'Charlie Christian the genius of the electric guitar' Disc 1. Edited July 19, 2021 by miles65 typo Quote
mikeweil Posted July 18, 2021 Report Posted July 18, 2021 Did some comparisons between the two sets yesterday. The J.R.T. Davies remastering is so much better! In between, some Satchmo: Quote
jazzbo Posted July 19, 2021 Report Posted July 19, 2021 I don't know. . . the JSP is really good but with some EQ experimentation the RCA sounds amazing to me. Quote

tranemonk Posted July 22, 2021 Report Posted July 22, 2021 It's been a long time since I broke this out. Listening at a public cafe is a weird but liberating post lockdown feeling. I got the digital version of this in the Itunes store for like $10 at the time. Quote
ghost of miles Posted July 27, 2021 Report Posted July 27, 2021 Guess I’ll start to climb this mountain: Quote
ghost of miles Posted July 30, 2021 Report Posted July 30, 2021 Been spending some time with this set as well, part of the same purchase from Tommy’s Jazz. Lloyd is pleasantly engaging enough, with a strong Trane vibe at times, but it’s Bobo Stenson’s piano that’s really hooking me: Quote
mikeweil Posted July 31, 2021 Report Posted July 31, 2021 (edited) Been playing through this set this morning. Sound is okay, but one album has been de-noised a bit too much (needle drop?). The three alternates from "Ramblin' with Mose Allison" are missing. Fantasy should have done this themselves. The music is very nice. The box is oop on the Fresh Sound website, but the German distributor still seems to have some copies. Edited July 31, 2021 by mikeweil Quote

There’s a new Mose box set on the way—can’t remember if it’s been discussed elsewhere on the board or not: Mose Allison: Complete Atlantic and Elektra Recordings 1962-83 (Much better price via Popmarket, btw) Edited July 31, 2021 by ghost of miles Quote

Now they offer the Japanese version at twice the charge. It is listed as out of stock at the Cherry Red website (which is the mother label of Strawberry). https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/mose-allison-the-complete-atlantic-elektra-albums-1962-1983-6cd-box-set/ Quote
mikeweil Posted August 3, 2021 Report Posted August 3, 2021 (edited) It was delivered today by amazon. A properly licensed reissue, mastered from master tapes in the Warner vaults, sounding good - better engineering than on the Prestige albums. The music is groovy, all sidemen are inspired. I'm glad I got me a copy. A small cardboard box with six CDs in separate cardboard slipcases and a nice booklet, btw. ... and there are such priceless lyrics as "Your mind is on vacation, and your mouth is working overtime."
