What a treasure of a boxset. Excellent set, one that I need to revisit as well. Right now, starting off with disc 1 of some Brownie: Quote

BFrank Posted May 11, 2020 Report Posted May 11, 2020 All four Special Edition albums on ECM. Great stuff! Quote
gmonahan Posted May 12, 2020 Report Posted May 12, 2020 Working my way through this one as I read my father's letters to my mother while he was in the army in '47! Quote
BeBop Posted May 23, 2020 Report Posted May 23, 2020 Five months without music, I've recently been binge listening to all my twenty-or-so complete Black Saint and Soul Note sets. Paul Motian at the moment. Any music is great; these have the edge of being easy to get to in my collection. Quote
Jim Duckworth Posted May 23, 2020 Report Posted May 23, 2020 Rolled through Teddy Wilson, Wingy Manone, and solo sessions; now really enjoying the Cab Calloway elements of this box. Quote
Bluesnik Posted May 29, 2020 Report Posted May 29, 2020 And enjoying it immensly. Not only because of Charlie Christian, also because of all of the others. I was listening to Hampton's Mosaic before, so he's a link. Quote
mikeweil Posted June 12, 2020 Report Posted June 12, 2020 Powerful music, almost too much. Six discs. Quote

jazzbo Posted July 7, 2020 Report Posted July 7, 2020 It was released in 2004 and is out of print as all the Fantasy titles released before Concord are. It can be had cheaply though in the used market. Quote

I realize Jazzbo already answered your question--I snagged it a few years ago when the Fantasy box-sets were turning up online as cutouts at bargain prices, and when I was going through a period of new appreciation for such anthologies. It's an excellent overview of the label, with good historical notes by Richard S. Ginell, and really shows the range of so-called "West Coast jazz," at least as recorded by Lester Koenig. Well worth picking up if found for a reasonable price. Quote
