Van Basten II
Starting the Ellington centennial boxset. Music aside for the price they charge for that thing they could have done a better job with the cd cases and the way they go in the box
Shawn
Starting the Ellington centennial boxset. Music aside for the price they charge for that thing they could have done a better job with the cd cases and the way they go in the box I bought a little 24-CD soft case to put the discs in...I agree, that box is a pain in the ass. ASNL77
Albert Ayler Holy Ghost. I have just received this set and I am working my way through the whole collection. I have just listened to discs 1 and 2. Great stuff. The inserts are worth it as well.
poetrylover3
Another fine Smithsonian Collection: Jazz Piano. 4cds with a lovely survey of styles and artists. Of course there are omissions but this is a yeoman's effort. A fine soundtrack to while away what Henry James termed the the two most blessed words in the English language : summer afternoon. gmonahan
Great box, though I sort of like the earlier "Star Dust" box better. Sure wish Bear Family would do one on the 1951-54 period!
ghost of miles
I'm a little more than halfway through the L-O-V-E box & probably inclined to agree with you, although there's some great material here (disc 5 alone, with the Billy May & George Shearing sessions, is fantastic)--jtaylor, who posts here from time to time, was an assistant producer on this box, & I've lobbied him to do exactly what you suggested. I think he's all for it, and unless Will Friedwald's totally burned out on Cole, I'd wager they could sign him on for such a project. Hopefully Bear Family will go for it at some point.
