ghost of miles Posted March 13 Report Posted March 13 Picked this up used at Jazz Record Center—an excellent overview of Green’s 1960s Blue Note sides: Cue broken record, but I continue to enjoy well-curated anthologies like these, even when I already have just about every track that they contain. It’s especially useful with an artist like Green who turned in so many outstanding sideman appearances for the same label, making it easier for a collection like this to represent the breadth of his recording for Blue Note. I would’ve enjoyed a fifth disc of 1969-72 selections as well, but that would have muddied the “jazz years” concept of the set as described in the booklet by Bob Blumenthal. Quote

They could have made a nice separate 2CD set of that material. It would be quite enjoyable and might open up some ears who have written off that era, which stands up as surprisingly strong in retrospec. Quote

mikeweil Posted March 19 Report Posted March 19 From this box set, these two albums: Sound is better than on previous reissues I know, and the commentary on the albums is very informative. I recommend this set. Quote

Guess I have to deal with all the sporadic issues from Columbia I have. Quote
Jason Michael Posted Monday at 01:32 PM Report Posted Monday at 01:32 PM (edited) I am a lucky man, my wife preordered it as a Christmas gift when it was first announced. It's a wonderful set. I still have at least one other copy of every album on both CD and LP. I love having all the different liner notes and presentations. I also prefer some masterings over others. It's great to have choice! This morning I'm playing Big Fun (CD No. 34) from the Complete Collection box. Edited Monday at 01:34 PM by Jason Michael Quote
