marcello Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 (edited) Anthony Braxton -contrabass clarinet Edited November 5, 2007 by marcello Quote
Guest Bill Barton Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 (edited) Very cool photo, Tom! It's not every day you see someone playing a sarrusophone. Or a contrabass clarinet for that matter... Edited November 5, 2007 by Bill Barton Quote
marcello Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 Now I think it's either a: octocontrabass clarinet - right contrabass clarinet - left He had a huge array of reeds on stage! Or could it be an EEEb "octocontralto" clarinet, only three of which were built. Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I'm about 98% sure that's a contrabass clarinet that Anthony Braxton has in the pic. (And I'd be shocked to learn otherwise.) Quote
DukeCity Posted November 5, 2007 Report Posted November 5, 2007 I'm about 98% sure that's a contrabass clarinet that Anthony Braxton has in the pic. (And I'd be shocked to learn otherwise.) I'll cover that last 2% for you. It's a contrabass clarinet (could be a contra-alto clar, but those are often referred to as contrabass as well). Quote
marcello Posted November 5, 2007 Author Report Posted November 5, 2007 Well, I hope that clears that up. Thanks! Quote
marcello Posted February 8, 2008 Author Report Posted February 8, 2008 I've heard from Rockerfeller Center that Alphonso Johnson has been ill. Here's a photo of him with Weather Report in 1975 or so: Quote

hepcat1950 Posted May 20, 2008 Report Posted May 20, 2008 Does anyone know who this Unknown Saxophonist is? Appeared with Hannibal Marvin Peterson's Sunrise Orchestra. NYC July 6, 1976 Possibly Makanda Ken McIntyre? Quote
marcello Posted May 24, 2008 Author Report Posted May 24, 2008 Maybe... Does anyone else have a opinion? Quote
Spontooneous Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Maybe... Does anyone else have a opinion? I thought the same for a minute. Maybe. But Ken didn't seem to have that much hair in the '70s. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted May 24, 2008 Report Posted May 24, 2008 Re: McIntyre, I hadn't thought of that but the photos are disarmingly similar. Quote
