Guest the mommy Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 anyone have these two? now out as japanese CDs. both look interesting. are they pretty straight or is anything out of the ordinary happening? Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 "Portuguese Soul" features an extended work, with big band/orchestra, on one side of the album. "Bluesmith" has our hero moving into a funky early 70s bag, at least on a couple of the cuts. I have lots and lots of Jimmy Smith from both his Blue Note and Verve eras and like this one quite a bit. jlhoots Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 I like Bluesmith too - Teddy Edwards, Ray Crawford, etc.. Quote
Swinging Swede Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 What's the catalogue number for Portuguese Soul? I wasn't aware that it was coming out, and can't find it on hmv.co.jp for example. Quote
Jim R Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 (edited) Portuguese Soul info ... or maybe you wanted the CD #... Edited January 4, 2007 by Jim R Quote
etherbored Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 What's the catalogue number for Portuguese Soul? I wasn't aware that it was coming out, and can't find it on hmv.co.jp for example. that's because it's a tower records japan exclusive. dustygroove is carrying it in the u.s. and towerrecords.co.jp is where you'll want to look for en japon. regards, -e- Quote
Parkertown Posted April 17, 2007 Report Posted April 17, 2007 Just picked up a NM copy of Portuguese Soul on Verve (LP). I'm totally groovin' on this one. AMG gives it only 2 stars, but this album rocks! Opinions? Quote
